Kerry Sutherland is a Child Psychologist whose life would change after a phone call. His sister Caroline’s neighbor called him advising him that the police were at her house and she has his two nephews. Kerry rushed to Caroline’s house worried about her and the boys and when he arrived, he learned that his sister was dead, and he is now the boy’s guardian.
Caroline was strangled but she was hanged leading to the belief she might have committed suicide. It didn’t take long before it was clear it was murder not suicide. Kerry was hoping to tell the boys about their mother’s death only a stupid police office told them first. Now angry over the death of his sister and the boys being totally inconsolable Kerry realizes that his life will never be the same.
Caroline’s love life was filled with losers, each boy having a different father but her love for her sons was what kept her going. As a Child Psychologist Kerry had dealt with children in grief but doing it with his nephews was an entirely different case. He is determined to help the boys and always be there for them.
At the crime scene, Kerry encountered Detective Brian Morrow, who was resolute in his pursuit of the perpetrator. Balancing the care of two young boys with the investigation, Kerry found himself in an unprecedented situation. The boys needed to be interviewed regarding any observations or sounds they might have encountered that could assist in identifying the murderer. However, their young age and the trauma they had experienced presented significant challenges.
One of the boy’s father’s is presently unknown, the other one is cleared. The search is on while two little boys must deal with a dead mother. They keep asking Kerry to bring their mommy back something he must explain to them that is impossible. He gets them to accept the fact that their mom is an angel now looking out of them.
Kerry and Brian work together to find the murderer and while doing that they begin to have feelings for each other. Even in the face of grief life goes on. It would take a six-year-old and his dog Pebbles to get some answers that would point to the killer. Kerry never expected to be raising two little boys, but he is determined to give them everything they need, love, security and someone they can always count on.
Andrew Grey’s compelling narrative in his latest book made the search for the killer exceptionally captivating, such that I completed the book in one sitting. As with all the books authored by Mr. Grey, he consistently provides accurate and detailed information, including evidence, witness accounts, and a meticulous step-by-step investigation.
The book is filled with surprises, romance and two little boys facing devastating grief that someone was responsible for.
