Angela Argento and her mother have gone from poverty to having lots of money. Her new stepfather Ronnie loves her mother and adopted Angela, so she is his real daughter. A trip to New York to attend shows leads to Angela being introduced to Vincenzo Genovese, a handsome man and a man who reveals that she and he will be married.
Angela didn’t know her stepfather was in the mafia. To unite the Argento and Genovese families, she must marry Vincenzo. He tells her he has two other women, and their marriage would be in name only. All Angela can think of is running, which is exactly what she does. She has it all planned out leaving no trail of where she is, but with money and the mafia behind them the Genovese’s are not far behind.
Angela winds up in Pine Ridge a place where supernatural’s and humans co-exit since humans only see what they want to see and the monsters in their midst appear like them.
She has some money and needs a job and a place to live but what she discovers will be something that lives in books or dreams.
Graham Kane is a dragon coming back to Pine Ridge to take care of his brother’s landscaping business for a month. Ian is married to a human woman carrying his child, a child that is dragonborn. Graham resented Ian’s marriage convinced that they should only marry their own kind to save their world and so he went to a place where he would be around dragonesses despite also being around evil.
Graham is a repo man whose boss asks him to find the missing Italian princess which isn’t hard to do since she is new to Pine Ridge and he has a picture of her. He finds her and convinces her that her mother sent him to guard her, which she believes. The one thing Graham didn’t expect is to be attracted to her.
So much happens between Graham and Angela, first he refuses to turn her in because he discovers why she ran and second because of his feelings for her. Angela has no idea that Graham is a dragon or that half the people she has met are various monsters she never believed existed in real life.
It is a race against time, will her mother and stepfather be hurt, will she be caught or will Pine Ridge give her the peace and security she seeks. As always, this book was full of romance, suspense, and surprises.
