At the age of twelve the happy childhood that Athena Cooper had come crashing down when her parents disappeared. Athena and her parents lived on Shelter Island owned by Angus Crawford, they were alone but Athena never felt like she missed out on anything her life was perfect till that fateful night when it all ended.

Athena went to live with her aunt but at a young age alcohol became her best friend. Athena was followed by the media for years all trying to talk to her and get information about her parents that was when she became Athena Cooper and not Margaret Anne O’Flynn. Athena always believed that Angus Crawford killed her parents but no one believed her. There was no evidence found that would lead to murder and especially not that a rich man would be the murderer.

Working at a prestigious law firm her drinking became a problem so she was given time off to get herself together. Twenty-one days sober and a letter arrived addressed to Margaret Anne O’Flynn, someone has found her and the letter is from a law office.

The lawyer’s client Russ Crawford, Angus’ adopted son met Athena in the park when her dog Otis ran into him and his bike. Russ was smitten with Athena from the first meeting but the lawyer’s client is none other than the woman he blamed for stealing his inheritance, Margaret Anne O’Flynn. Angus left almost his entire vast estate to Margaret O’Flynn the very woman who was convinced he murdered her parents and there was no way she wanted anything from him. Trying to convince Russ that she would give him everything if he would help her find out what happened all those years ago is not easy, he is sure she is up to something but what does he have to lose.

And now the story begins, questions are answered, secrets are revealed and there is one surprise after another. Working together Russ and Athena uncover secrets that will change their lives forever, especially Athena’s. Every time I thought I had figured everything out I was proved wrong and not until the end did Athena get all her answers and the relationship between her and Russ took off.

A book that kept me glued to each page, a book that kept me guessing and held my interest from beginning to end.
