The Final Chapter of the Mysterious Guardians is a tense blend of action, adventure, paranormal elements, and mystery as reformed demons, priests, ghosts, and soldiers work together to stop a doomsday machine.

This book is the third and final chapter of this series about secret guardians led by the ghost of Winston Churchill who need to complete missions of a paranormal nature to stop various evils. In this one, it’s the ticking of a clock under Castle Ksiaz that will destroy the world. Evil Neo-Nazis battle angels (even the Archangel Michael) to help Bones, the team’s only mortal member, to stop this plot to destroy all life on earth.

We are thrown directly into the action as a battle rages under the castle and are quickly introduced to the fantastical assortment of characters. The interactions of the characters and who is who is quite jumbled in the action. There’s a lot of excitement and fighting as we follow Dr. Raven Wyndot AKA Bones, the only female mortal professional on the team of male supernaturals.Part of the story is told in the mortal world, and part of the supernatural world called “The Beyond.” The story is largely told from Bones’ point of view, but the writing style is very difficult to follow as so much is going on. These adventurers must find a time machine, abandoned in Germany after WWII. They must also stop fanatical Neo-Nazis who want to find cells of the most horrid original Nazis and clone them. The story deals with tracking down the time machine, bodies and artifacts, such as Mengel’s journal, to ensure that no one can ever recreate these human monsters. Oh, yes—and stop the doomsday clock!

If you love history and action, this book will have you racing to finish it, overlooking any confusion in writing or the very complicated plot. One thing that happens is a lot of head-hopping, taking us out of the POV and telling us an unconnected event, for example, a mysterious watch pulsing in a desk that is not in any way part of the current conversation in the chapter. For those of you who prefer a more concrete, clear path, it is a must that you read the other books first!

I’d rather not reveal any of the surprise ending, but I must say, well done to McCoy for a thrilling crescendo worth reading!
