I took down the clan of a ruthless vampire who’s hell-bent on destroying the world. I was a fool to believe he’d run. Is he the one leaving bodies in the street for me to find? Or is there someone else lurking in the shadows?

Mercy’s life changed forever when she discovered that not only is she a witch, but that she was born to rid the world of vampires once and for all.

After a year of intense training to hone her powers, she and her coven are pulled into a murder case in her hometown of East Greenwich. The coven, with the help of a friend with direct ties to the investigation, discovers that a vampire attack claimed the victim’s life. Mercy suspects the killer belongs to a new clan in town, The Black Horse, and goes undercover in the vampire underworld. There, she’ll discover dark, long-hidden secrets and face her father from her previous life, who she learns is the leader of this ruthless undead.

New relationships will develop, friendships will be tested, and lives will be lost.

As Mercy draws closer to finding the killer, a villain from her past creeps out of the shadows. Maurice, centuries-old vampire, is thirsty for revenge after her coven took down his clan.

The Chosen Coven will now have to combine the forces of the Universal Elements, to fight the darkness that falls on their city.

It has been a year since Mercy’s Awakening, her best friends Shannon and Riley are attending school her Aunt Lily is in a relationship and Cami is out of her coma but is in a very dark place where no one is able to reach her. The spell that removed Mercy’s feelings of love for Dorian and Caleb did not do a very good job in removing her feelings of lust. She has been training in the use of her magic and in her ability to defend herself without it.

She has been trying to give vampires the decision to become human again or die never just killing them but giving them the chance they wouldn’t normally give a human. When a friend is found murdered with bite marks she decides to investigate The Black Horse Clan by visiting their hangout only she got more than she could ever have expected when she discovers that the leader of this new clan is none other than her father from the past. Now she has to deal with a man who raised her in her past life and the discovery that Maurice is back.

If you read the first book in this series which I hope you have then you know about Maurice and what Mercy did to him and his clan. There is no doubt that he is back for revenge against the witch who destroyed everything he had. Now she is not the only one in danger but all those she loves are as well.

The dagger that is the only way to kill the coven has gone missing and of course Maurice is the first one they all suspect. There are other murders happening in town and the question is if it is possible that Mercy’s father is the one responsible. She believes he is good but only time will tell. Cami is committed to a psychiatric facility where it is determined that Kylan the vampire who possessed her is still living inside her and the only hope for her peace of mind is for Mercy to kill her. Whether she does or not is not something I will discuss in this review.

Mercy lives with so much guilt, the death of her mother, the spell that removed her ability to love Caleb or Dorian and watching as they both try to come to terms with her decision, a decision that left two men who loved her hurting. So much happens in this book, surprises, and betrayals new characters and a cliffhanger but that is not a problem since all three books in this series have been released and I am about the read book three to finally get all the answers I have hungered for.

Can’t recommend this series enough and highly recommend reading them in order.
