The Demon’s in the Details

Can a sexy demon really spin straw into gold?

Poe Dupin, raven shifter and thief extraordinaire, is in trouble with a capital ‘T.’ Not only did he get his wing caught in the cookie jar during his latest heist, but his loser stepdad, the alpha, seems determined to run their roost into the ground. And Baltimore is many things, but forgiving is not on the list.

When his stepdad puts the roost in peril, Poe sees no choice but to bargain with Charm City’s only demon, Tommy Tittoti. Rumors are that Tommy eats the souls of those foolish enough to try. Three strikes and you’re out. But really, Poe wasn’t using his soul anyway. And if it saves his roost? Worth it.

Tommy isn’t what Poe expects. Demon—huge, horned, hairy, and scary, right? Nope. Blond, gorgeous, with a bubble butt, and a lilting drawl that beckons Poe to come play. Total hookup-app fantasy material. Even if he is a murder twink.

Poe’s no angel, but Tommy . . . well he’s more devil than demon. Yet, Poe just can’t seem to keep his feathers out of the fire. As one bargain turns into two, and then a third tragedy strikes the ravens, Poe finds himself falling for a guy who may very literally be the death of him. Or maybe the flames will burn them both.

The Demon’s in the Details is a fast-paced, roller coaster of a romance with a guaranteed HEA and lots of steam. Shenanigans include: a gold object that is definitely not a ring, a best friend who’s trigger-happy, and a demon who’s got a few surprises up his, uh, sleeve.

The Demon’s in the Details by Meghan Maslow is a funny, intense, sexy MM fairytale with plenty of nods to the literature lovers among us. Poe Dupin, a raven-shifter (hold onto your squeals) is funny, smart, and in so much trouble. His stepdad is a terrible alpha who is slowly sinking the family business, territory, and safety with his drinking and gabmling debts. It’s time for Poe to get some help, but the only person who might be able to work a miracle that will save them from Briggs, a Basilisk-shifting gangster, is a demon with a terrible reputation.

Baltimore is FULL of shifters in this incredibly intricate book, full of wonderfully developed characters. Demons, on the other hand, are very scarce. Tommy is a demon who may actually beagle to turn common items into gold and get Poe and his family out of hot water. While Tommy is feared throughout the town, he turns out to have a very soft spot for Poe. (We can’t blame him, Poe is the definition of honor among thieves, in addition to running a community center and being willing to do anything to protect the younger members of his family.) Ethan, Poe’s horrible stepfather, ends up killing one of Briggs’ goons. The slimy shifter demands one of Poe’s little siblings to seal a blood debt and the deadbeat Ethan gives in. In a scene that will leave you on the edge of your seat, Tommy works his magic and saves the day, but the bad blood remains between the Basilisks and Ravens, and the deplorable Ethan remains in charge. Can Tommy help Poe realize his own power and value and become the leader of the Roost? Will Briggs ever give up his quest to take the Ravens territory— and Poe’s unwilling body?

The story screams with sizzling wit and M/M steam. You’ll 100% start shipping Poe and Tommy, who get under each other’s skins and worm their way into each other’s hearts. The plot is also one that builds and builds with zero stagnation. Even though the rivalry between Poe and Briggs is the driving force, there are significant subplots at the story level and the emotional level. One of the true joys in the tale is seeing Poe move on from his position as a punching bag who thinks little of himself to the true hero of his people. It’s definitely one of this year’s favorite reads!
