Dr. Rachel Bennett thought she’d escaped her past—until her relentless ex-husband tracks her down, threatening not just her but her young son. Despite having hurt her childhood best friend, Nick Kincaid, by leaving Colorado years earlier, she’s out of options, out of luck, and out of time. She turns to the billionaire tech genius, the one man she can trust.

Nick has always loved Rachel, more than just being best friends, and that didn’t dim when he had to watch her marry the wrong guy. But he didn’t grow bitter ... didn’t stop loving her. Determined to keep Rachel and her son safe, Nick whisks them away to his secluded Colorado ranch.

As the danger escalates, so does the tension between Rachel and Nick. Their friendship has always been unshakable, but the growing attraction between them is something neither expected. Nor can they ignore it.

When there’s no place left to hide, will they finally admit the feelings they’ve always fought? Or will their chance at love be lost forever because of a madman’s possessive rage?

A gripping romantic suspense novel about love, friendship, and fighting for a future no matter the risk, no matter the cost.

Rachel Bennett left her husband and returned to Colorado, her childhood home. She rented a small house with her eight-year-old son Jake to begin anew. However, her ex-husband Greg located her and insisted on staying involved in her life. Unfortunately, Greg found her and attacked her, but she called the police who were outside, and he ran.
Rachel had new locks put on the doors and felt a little more secure until there was a knock on the door. Outside was her childhood best friend Nick Kincaid, a boy she always had feelings for but chose to leave to follow her dream of being a doctor. Nick was shocked to discover what Rachel had gone through and offered her help, which she turned down. What Rachel didn’t know was that in the years she hadn’t seen Nick he became a billionaire,
It had been over ten years since they last saw each other but their feelings never changed. She married a man she thought loved her and had a son she adored, and Nick married a woman who left as soon as their daughter Bailey was born. Accepting an invitation with Nick for dinner, she and Jake had a good time until they arrived home and found that Greg had busted into the house and wrecked it.
Nick refused to allow her to stay there and brought her and Jake back to his ranch. With a security guard and security all around Rachel felt safe for the first time in years. Nick’s daughter Bailey was also eight and she and Jake became best friends.
Rachel realized that she loved Nick and always had but if he didn’t feel the same their friendship would not survive. What Rachel didn’t know was that Nick never stopped loving her, but it would take time for them to accept the fact that their children were happy and that their friendship would survive.
While everything was going well, Jake learning to ride horses, his friendship with Bailey getting stronger Greg was not far away and planning his next act to get Rachel. He didn’t care about Jake, never wanted him and he knew if he got Rachel alone, she would do anything to keep Greg away from him.
This was a beautiful story of long-time best friends reuniting and finally giving into their feelings. It was also a suspenseful story when Greg got his wish of getting to Rachel. I am a huge fan of Ms. Woolf and loved every book of hers I have read so I highly recommend not only this book but all her books.
