Lachlan

Where did I go wrong? How has it come to this? I shake my head. I think back to all the decisions I made over the years and answer my own questions. My family had warned me. My kin had told me to leave her alone, but in my arrogance, I ignored them. She’s just a child, I had told them.Just a babe, really. And she had been. But babes grow. As do their desires. The young girl I had once known is long gone. And in her place, a monster. A beast who has taken over my world, who now has the power to control me. She has stolen my most prized possession, and with it, my life. For, without my skin, I am nothing…

Brynn

He is brilliant. He is magnificent. He is perfection. And he is mine. I tried asking. I tried showing him how good we could be together. But he refused me. Time and again, he refused to see me for the woman I’ve become. Well, he can’t refuse me any longer. Not after everything I’ve done for him. I’ve done something most would never consider. I’ve transformed myself into a most powerful being. Far more powerful than the magical water Fae could be on land. As a result, my beautiful selkie is now mine and mine alone, now and forever. His attempts at freedom amuse me. How long will it be before he realizes he can never win?

When I received this book to review, I had little expectations, it is short, written by two authors so I figured a quick read, write a review and that would be it so what a surprise when I found that I loved it and wanted more.

Brynn has had a hard life; her mother is gone and her father is a drunk but when she met Lachlan and he looked at her like she was important she decided she had to have him in her life forever. Lachlan is a water fae something he is sure he has kept a well-guarded secret. His family warned him about his visits to women on land but he didn’t listen and he would pay the price.

When Brynn was fifteen, she saw herself as a woman and wanted Lachlan only he saw her as a child. She made him promise to return in seven years when she would be fully grown a promise, he reluctantly agreed to and a fae never breaks a promise. What he didn’t know was that Brynn always followed him and knew exactly what he was. Brynn is determined to keep him when he returns and seeks out the help of Elsbeth a Woodland Witch.

Elsbeth advises Brynn that only the Collector could help her but the price for his help would be very steep. Determined to find him she goes out on her own where she meets the worst of humankind who rape her, steal her money and teach her a hard lesson. What she learns is that sex pays and a once innocent girl becomes a whore and a monster.

Brynn finds the Collector and discovers the price she has to pay to stay young forever and strong, strong enough that Lachlan will not have a chance against her. When next she meets Lachlan, she finds a sure way to keep him, and it works but Lachlan will never stop fighting for his freedom. Lachlan has a lifetime in front of him to finally be free of Brynn and I can’t wait to read the next book to see what happens.
