Willow Ardelean has been living a normal life among humans for two hundred years but she is anthing but normal. Willow is a vampire over three hundred years old and the daughter of Dracula himself. She has always loved being around humans and now she is living in Lakefalls working as the assistant for the Jarl. She knows she has to move on soon but she waited for too long and a blood hunter was hired to find and kill a vampire responsible for the death of a young boy. She knows how dangerous this blood hunter is and when she is asked to assist him in his search she knows she is in trouble.
Adam Degore became a blood hunter after vampires killed his entire village and his family. The only one left was his younger brother Zachariah who he has locked in his basement. Zachariah was just another casualty of the attack. It doesn’t take long before Adam realizes that the beautiful woman helping him is the enemy when he notices she has no reflection in a mirror and cannot enter his room without an invitation. He sees Willow as his hope for saving his brother and sets about to capture her. He is determined to find a cure for vampirism and she will be his next test subject.
Even after Willow reveals she is Dracula’s daughter and Adam knows without a doubt that keeping her would be deadly he continues. He uses one elixir after another causing her extreme pain but slowly he begins to realize that all his beliefs about vampires were untrue, Willow begins to show him that vampires are not the monsters he always believed them to be. Like with humans there are evil vampires and vampires just surviving the best way they can.
As a blood hunter he is honor bound to kill the enemy and suddenly his conscience is getting the better of him. It is Willow who discovers Zachariah and knows exactly what has happened to him, he is feral and she is determined to help him. Another trait that Adam never believed a vampire could have, sympathy and caring.
I loved this story, a story about hating an entire species because of a few bad apples, a story alive and well in the twenty-first century. Alot happens in this story but I will not give away spoilers and reveal what happens but I definitely suggest reading this book if you love vampire stories and great characters.
