Pete was talked into a trip to Yellowstone by his friend Roger who was supposed to join him but wound up with mono and had to stay home. One small step off the path to see some beautiful flowers was all it took for Pete to get lost and be left behind by the tour group. Alone, lost and totally out of his element things go from bad to worse when a cougar attacks Pete and a storm sets in.

Able to get away from the weather and the cougar Pete takes shelter in an old storage building all while cursing Roger and promising to haunt him for the rest of his life. Pete works as a waiter while trying to write a best seller but writer’s block caused him to take Roger’s advice and try something adventurous with the hope of finding some new ideas for a book. Pete is woken in the morning by a man, but not any man, it is Tobias Montford the alpha of a small pack. Tobias is starting to rebuild his small pack after the near annihilation brought on by the previous alpha Anton’s lust for power.

The minute Tobias sees Pete he knows he has found his mate only what should have been a dream come true is anything but. Pete is human and a relationship with him could put Tobias and the rest of the packs in danger. Pete is attracted to Tobias and is invited to spend time with Tobias and his family until he has to leave and meet up with the tour group. Pete has no idea that he is staying with a shifter pack until Tobias’ half-brother, Zev and the son of Anton comes looking for trouble.

Zev attacks Tobias in human and wolf form and Pete finds out who and what Tobias and his pack are. Tobias knows that if he bonds with Pete he will tie him to him and the pack but it is not how he wants to win his mate. Tobias will let Pete go rather than force him to do anything against his will. Pete accepts everyone and inspite of being comfortable around them he knows his place is back in New York. He has no idea that he is Tobias’ mate and what leaving him would mean. Tobias will lose half his soul when Pete leaves but if Pete wants to leave he won’t stop him.

Zev has always wanted revenge against Tobias for becoming alpha when he beat him at the challenge. Zev is not going away and he wants everything that belongs to Tobias, the pack, his life and his mate.

This book is filled with suspense, sex and amazing characters. Many authors have tried to write in a genre different than they usually do but many do not succeed, that is not the case with Mr Greyson who sequed from M/M mystery to M/M paranormal romance and did it so easily. I have read all of Mr. Greyson’s books and love each and every one. I love that he changes genre so that I get the best of both worlds, mystery and paranormal. I give five stars to this book, this series and Mr. Greyson.
