Eleven authors have contributed to one series and this is one of the stories. Each story is about finding your fated and forbidden mate and they are stand-alone.

It has been twenty-five years since Balc a Spell Forger was forced by a drae lord to create an abomination that would kill anything in its path. He created an Ash guardian made from clay and drae bones but a silent prayer silent would make a world of difference in his creation.

Now twenty-five years later, we meet Fallen Leneth a dragon shifter who has chosen to live on Earth. The Queen’s Guardians have the task of finding those who live outside the kingdom and bring them back for punishment. When she wakes up to find herself in a prison, she is convinced the Queen has found her, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. The truth is that she was captured by the Collector, Noah, who drains those with magic or sells them into slavery. Noah killed her mom, and he is the one she has been searching for with revenge in her heart.

The only hope for her is to get out, but a magic spell is keeping her from using her fire to burn down the door. A fellow prisoner locked up in the room next to her convinces her he knows the way out, but will only reveal it if she frees him also. As soon as she is free, she runs leaving the other prisoner locked up only she doesn’t get far because it seems that the two of them are bound together, where one goes the other has to follow.

Saber was one of the Queen’s Guardians, something that Fallen is definitely not aware of because if he found out about her, she would be returned to the Queen. She doesn’t know that Saber has secrets of his own and he is in as much danger from the Queen as she is. He also wants to see Noah dead since his step-father is a prisoner of his. Fallen has four weeks to find her life-mate before the Creators destroy everyone in her realm and on Earth. When Saber and Fallen see they have the same dragon tattoo on their wrists, she knows that they both must find their soul-mates. Saber does not believe it, and in time she will discover why.

Although both of them have the tattoo, there is no other sign that they are life-mates. The journey to find Noah and their life-mates is fraught with all kinds of danger and some very horrible creatures. There were quite a few surprises in the book and some very tense moments. I loved this book and look forward to reading the others in the series.
