JJ Spritely, history professor and romance author, writes love stories, but her own happily ever after seems out of reach. She’s frustrated her most recent book is sitting in a warehouse instead of in the hands of her readers. And her relationship with her boyfriend has stalled. What else could possibly go wrong?

How about a return visit from Alex and Blake, the fictional characters from her yet-to-be-released book? They’ve jumped out of the pages of their book into JJ’s world before. They mean well, but they cause chaos wherever they go.

Kennedy King Cooper wants to propose to JJ, but his track record with this sort of thing isn’t good - and to further complicate matters, the new professor, Robert J. MacWhouton, is monopolizing JJ’s time. If he doesn’t ask her soon, he may lose her forever.

Alex and Blake are determined to give destiny a helping hand. They stand ready to do whatever it takes to help Kenn propose before a kilt-wearing romance hero wannabe sweeps her off her feet. If only they had a plan.

This time, it seems, no one is guaranteed a happily ever after.

Merlin the wizard oversees sending fictional characters to the real-world giving destiny a helping hand. The newest mission is to return Alex Zurich and Blake Teesdale back to JJ Spritely the author who created them. This is their second visit the first was to ensure that JJ and Kenneth King Cooper fell in love and now to get Kenn to propose.
At a reward show where JJ won the award for most realistic characters, she sees her characters appear once again. JJ has now idea why they have appeared again but is happy to see them. Her novel Love’s Surprise introduced Alex and Blake, but her book is sitting in a warehouse with the release of her book being pushed back once again.
Alex and Blake are known by everyone as JJ’s cousins and everyone welcomes them back. They have a mission to complete but the arrival of a new professor, Dr. Robert J. MacWhouton can put their plans in trouble. MacWhouton wears a kilt, he is Scottish and handsome, and he and JJ are given an assignment which will put them close to each other.
Kenn has had a past experience that has made him gun shy about asking the love of his life to marry him and when he does finally get the courage with ring in hand Blake and Alex arrive ending the moment. Alex comes up with all kinds of ideas and each one fails. Time is running out before JJ and MacWhouton wind up an item.
MacWhouton keeps telling JJ that their assignment has been rejected so they are pushed together time and time again. Merlin arrives to show Alex and Blake the statistics about Kenn and JJ getting engaged and JJ and MacWhouton ending up together.
Alex and Blake are amazing characters, always creating chaos but their chaos is funny and sweet. JJ loves Kenn and he loves her but every time she suspects he will propose he doesn’t. She begins to question whether she wants to marry him but each time the answer is the same, yes.
This was such a sweet story, fast moving, funny and with amazing characters. There are surprises, lies and I read the story in one sitting. The idea of characters from books coming to life was a wonderful one and beautifully written.
