From the author of Healer comes Connection, a tale of supernatural suspense in which one man's search for redemption pits him against a cunning religious leader and his community who are preparing for a violent end of the world.

Retired Army Captain Jackson Howe views his ability to "connect" with others as invasive and inconvenient, but he deals with it by only using his power to help others. He's found purpose at Havenhart Academy using art therapy with child victims of trauma and his friends have embraced him and his quirky behavior, but after meeting Delaney's friend Cassidy—and developing a stronger than usual "connection" with her—he fears he's destined to forever be on the outside looking in.

But when Cassidy's link to Havenhart makes her a target and the plane she's flying is hijacked, she's forced to crashland in the Florida Everglades and becomes a pawn in the struggle between good and evil. Jackson will call on his training—and special skills—to save her from an enemy determined to spread evil and hurt those Jackson holds dear.

Follow the continuing saga of Havenhart Academy in Book Two of the Gifted Series.

18+ for violence and language. Best read after Healer: Gifted Book One

Jackson Howe is a retired army captain working as an art teacher at Havenhart Academy. If you read book one in this series then you are familiar with Havenhart Academy and the students that attend, students who are victims of trauma, broken and damaged from around the world and who have special gifts. Jackson also has a gift, a gift of connection, when he touches certain people, he makes a “Connection” and is able to feel and see what they do. His strongest connection was with Cassidy MacKenzie the best friend of Delaney who we first met in book one.

Cassidy visited Delaney at the school and when she shook hands with Jackson their Connection was made but she returned home to deal with her divorce and the knowledge that her husband bankrupted them. Losing their charter business and unsure of what she wants to do going forth she now works for another company. She has been offered a job at the school as their pilot but is not ready to accept the fact that she would be surrounded by people with gifts she can’t accept. Everything in her lift changed when she is hijacked by two women and winds up crashing her plane in the Florida Everglades.

With his Connection with Cassidy Jackson feels her pain and feels her fear when she becomes the prisoner of a fanatic named Gerald Rains the leader of a cult called “The Community”. Jackson knows that she survived the crash unlike her two hijackers and that she is having trouble seeing and is hurt. He knows she is being held prisoner and is ready to run into the compound and rescue her, a bad idea and fortunately he makes a plan to join the community and carefully orchestrate her rescue. Working with the FBI and his friend from the army the plan is set.

It is Irene a nurse that cares for Cassidy and helps her but her help can only go so far when Rains decide he wants her and decides she doesn’t need any more help. Locked up in a dark room alone and scared and hurting all over it is the sound of Jackson’s voice outside her room that gives her the feeling of safety that someone is there for her.

What the plan is, if it is successful is not for me to reveal, but it is something you will discover when you read this book which I highly recommend you do. Secrets, lies, surprises and romance are just a few of the things that will keep you glued to this story just as it kept me glued. The characters are amazing and the suspense of what happens to the cult and to Cassidy left me on the edge of my seat. Reading book one would enhance your knowledge of the Academy and some of the characters that appear in this book but it is not essential to enjoying this one.
