Another exciting O’Brien mystery only this time it is personal. Waiting with his partner Cori Anderson at a private airport for his eighty-year-old uncle to arrive from Ireland was supposed to be a happy occasion but turned out to be anything but. While watching the plane land and watching as his uncle is about to embark all hell breaks loose, the airplane blows up and what should have been a happy reunion turns out to be a mystery Finn is determined to solve.
In addition to his uncle Finn is convinced that the woman standing behind him is the girl he loved when he was young. The blast was so powerful that the picture window that Finn and Cori were standing behind blew out causing them both injuries. Now the question is, was it due to a mechanical mishap or was it a bomb. Finn is determined to find out what happened but he finds himself butting heads with an arrogant ATV agent who doesn’t want Finn anywhere near his investigation. With the agent it is business with Finn it is personal.
As Finn begins investigating on his own, he discovers that his childhood girlfriend Maura was on the plane. Maura’s sister shows up seeking answers and creating chaos because she wants to know what happened to her sister even though she and her sister hadn’t spoken for years and Finn wants to find out about his uncle who he never met but who his mother is so excited to see.
When a letter arrives informing his mother that she has inherited ten million dollars from his uncle Finn knows that something isn’t kosher and is convinced that the insurance on his uncle and the bomb are related. His uncle was a master distiller for Wolfhound Distillery and this trip was a thank you for all his years of service. Everything seems to point to the Distillery and the Cain brothers, Dennis the CEO and Brian the CFO. Both brothers are determined to keep the Distillery operating and keeping the family business from failing.
What a Distillery, an insurance company and a plane blowing up have to do with one another is a mystery Finn is determined to solve in spite of his involvement causing disfavor from his boss and the ATV agent. Following Finn as he unravels this complicated mystery and figuring out how everything comes together was wonderful. If a great whodunnit is your cup of tea then filler up with Ms. Forster’s books each one a page turner and full of surprises.
