When self-professed hermit Theodora Edwards is attacked by a dark fae and infected with his magic, she finds herself thrust into the supernatural spotlight as the first possible changeling in centuries. As if surviving the transition isn’t hard enough, Theo has to deal with an attempted abduction by her newly turned vampire ex-husband, unwanted courting offers from salacious fae suitors, and her growing attraction to the guardian of the gate to Fairie.
Caught in a cruel tug of war between the queen of the fae and a surly law-enforcement agent, Theo must find a way to free herself before she loses her hard-earned independence for good.

Theodora (Theo) Edwards is short, chubby and spunky. Six years ago, her husband Will disappeared, she left the city and bought a cabin that ensured her privacy. Theo has one friend Katie who convinced her to go out to a bar where Katie would end up with a guy and Theo would end up home alone. Throwing caution to the wind, she decided to have a few drinks and would sit in her truck till she sobered up before heading home.
Unfortunately, she woke up at home with the hangover from hell and no idea how she got there and who the man sitting next to her on the couch was. Oscar Alderidge is an agent for a Paranormal organization and is looking for her husband Will. Will has been linked to several murders, but Theo has no idea where he is. This incident would be the start of life-changing occurrences and would introduce Theo to a world she knew nothing about. As a bestselling author she would learn that fact is much worse than fiction.
When Theo decided to go for a swim, she had no idea it would be her introduction to the world of the Fae. Attacked by a creature resembling the Grim Reaper and having her arms badly scratched up by the creature’s claws, she is saved by Farranen the Guardian of the Gate between the Fairy and human realms. A glamoured sword and a dead dark fae brought Theo face to face with a nightmare that should only appear in books and movies.
Things get worse when Oscar comes to take Theo into custody, it seems that having been sliced up by the creature she could now transition and would be a danger to those around her. It is Farranen that refuses to let her go and appoints himself her protector. Theo had no idea how much protection she would need, her husband Will is now a vampire and wants her, the Fae are excited about her being a Changeling and what it could mean to their race and Theo wants to be left alone so she can bake a cake.
Theo is a girl after my own heart when things get scary, when everything looks hopeless, eating cake is always calming. For a woman with a desire to be a hermit Theo gets constant visits from men she would just hope to never see again. Even a stray dog comes calling and like Theo he loves cake lol.
Theo is such an amazing character, faced with the unbelievable she fights back, vampires, fae, violence, even cake won’t be enough. It took me awhile to read this book since I had to constantly stop reading, not because it was slow moving but because it is hard to read while you are laughing hysterically. I can’t wait for more of this series and for more of Theo. Although the book doesn’t end with a cliffhanger there is no doubt more is coming.
