Nina Billings is the owner of Island Bloomers, a flower shop, and decided to deliver three funeral arrangements, never imagining how that simple task would change her life. After the delivery she heard a woman scream and a car come barreling towards her. Her first reaction was to take a picture of the car and when the police show up and look at what she thought was a picture it turned out to be a video of the man removing his mask and his face was front and center.
The driver of the stolen car is identified as an escaped criminal, Spratt, a man known as a murderer and once again the legal system failed. The police advise Nina to get help since she is now in danger from a man who although now known by everyone will go after her as a message to anyone who gets in his way.
Her first call is to Jess Keller, the new Guardian Agency regional coordinator and her brother’s fiancé. Jess assigns Boone Reynolds to watch over Nina until Spratt is caught. When the two meet Boone is very professional and doesn’t let on that he and Nina had a one-night stand in Charleston and he has been searching for her ever since she disappeared, like Boone, Nina remembers that night very well.
While protecting Nina, Boone can’t keep his thoughts and memories of their night together from surfacing. He knows that he will do whatever it takes to protect the woman who has become more and more important to him every day he spends with her. Living in a small-town Nina works very hard at not drawing attention to her personal life, the reason she goes to Charleston when she wants to let loose.
Spratt has managed to stay hidden, and the Guardian Agency and the police are no closer to finding him. While the search for him is on Nina and Boone try to keep their brief encounter a secret from everyone, something Boone finds difficult to do while Nina keeps her thoughts of their time together as just a one-night stand. What happens to them is something you must read for yourself.
This book, like all the books I have read by Ms. Black, kept me glued from beginning to end. A mystery, a romance, surprises, and secrets, if you are not familiar with Ms. Black’s work, I highly recommend getting familiar her books have everything you could want from a romantic mystery.
