The beginning of ‘Luke Blackmon’s Rose’ is confusing. The first few pages of the book are introducing the reader to a fascinating woman… but her name is ‘Lyn.’ I continued reading, drawn into the story, fascinated by the coincidences connecting Luke Blackmon and Lyn. And only after I started thinking, I must have read the ‘wrong’ book, the secret is revealed… Luke Blackmon’s Rose is off to an excellent beginning.

Both torn between hope and their horrible past, Rosalyn and Luke meet at their friends’ houseand instantly feel an inexplainable attraction, not only of their hearts but also an undeniable physical attraction they almost immediately begin to take advantage of.

At first, Luke seemed shy and extremely careful to show himself in public with a white woman… and I was irritated, almost upset… until I learned where he came from. Luke hasn’t been traveling a long way – he has been traveling a ‘long time’.

With utmost consideration and love, his partner explains to him the progress in acceptance interracial couples have made in this country’s past decades.

Luke is a fast learner, and Rose’s careful teaching helps him to open up to her, telling her about his past, and they both discover that there is more than ‘only’ physical attraction between them.

I don’t want to spoil anyone’s joy and fun by revealing more of the story, fearing it might say too much. But be assured that the story plot has been carefully drawn. Each of the carrying characters within the book is a strong one. Next to the main protagonists, Luke and Rose, the reader meets Kingsley and Mira, their loyal and amazing friends; each of them is a power of their own and, in a subtle and valuable way, supports the story admirably.

I’m generally not a massive fan of time travel. In many stories, I discover far too many overseen paradoxes. This book is a bit different in that manner. The subject of the happening itself is kept in a vague haze and is only a part of the story that leads to the present, the differences between the times, the progress that has been made, and the learning curve Luke is going through.

Part of the story is about the racism that has been overcome and the racism that has been taking over again in modern times. The author’s sensitivity and emotional compassion are remarkable when she writes this story in a beautiful way of love and diversity that includes her readers entirely.

This is not a book about skin color… it’s a book about disadvantage, fear, cruelness… and the way of hearts that can heal, help and overcome the darkest of times.

Luke Blackmon’s Rose is a fantastic adventure, ready to be experienced!
