Welker Vestore, an officer with the Bangor PD and a member of Downeast SWAT, has a reputation as a player. But is it justified? Sure, he’s sought continuous validation for his damaged ego since being medically discharged from the Navy, but he’s never led any of his female conquests on with false declarations of “forever after”. Now, however, the stakes are suddenly high. Welker has to prove his sincerity to the one woman who’s become important to him, not only in hopes that they may have a future together, but because she’s being targeted by a notoriously dangerous motorcycle club. The big question is, will she listen? What can Welk do to persuade her she needs to take him seriously because her life is in grave danger?

The best thing deputy Moira Bliss ever did was join Downeast SWAT. Never quite feeling like part of the sheriff’s department where she’s worked for a decade, she realizes her luck when threats to her life aren’t taken seriously by her PSD superiors, and she turns to SWAT for help. Of course, the man who has intrigued her for months—her squad leader—is the one who steps up and designates himself as her primary protector, which is a hard pill to swallow. Even though the handsome officer is undeniably captivating, accepting his help goes against everything Moira has learned in her painful past. Still, the man is determined, so what choice does she have?

Deputy Moira Bliss watched as the President of 227 MC was sentenced to ten years in prison joining other high members of the MC. Knowing that the club will not take this lying down she is prepared for whatever comes her way, well she thought she was until she realized the two or three she expected to come for her turned out to be six or seven. She used the escape route she had set up and knew she had to call for help but the closest to her was Welker Vestore and she had no choice but to call him for help.

Hiding on the roof while listening to her house being torn apart, she waits for Welker and the rest of the SWAT team to arrive. When the gang finally leaves, she faces the heartbreaking aftermath of the destruction they did. Furniture, walls, appliances, her clothes they left nothing undamaged.

Since staying in her home is out of the question and she doesn’t have any family or friends nearby Welk offers her his home. He is known as a womanizer but for some reason Moira has caught his attention, and he is happy about the time they will have together to hopefully break down the walls she surrounds herself with.

Moira had a horrible childhood filled with money but empty of love and caring. She dresses like a man, stays to herself and keeps her emotions under tight control. Being with Welk is pushing her into a situation she is unprepared for especially when all her clothes are gone, and she finds herself wearing his sisters tight clothing exposing the real woman behind the manly sweats she insists on wearing.

Moira has always been attracted to Welk, but she has seen the women he goes out with, and she is nothing like them so any chance of a relationship between them is non-existent. She has no idea that Welker is interested in her exactly because she is not like the women, he usually dates but he knows he has to go slow.

Hiding from the MC it becomes clear that she is not getting support from the Penobscot Sheriff’s Department and when they are attacked heading to Welk’s home and are shot at it is apparent that someone is working with the MC. Is the Sheriff working with the 227 MC, is he in charge and if so how to prove it.

So much happens in this book, both good and bad but the good is very good leading to romance. After a lifetime of hiding Moira is finally breaking free but putting an end to the MC that is after her is the main priority.

Secrets, surprises, betrayal, lies and the introduction of Margaret a ninety-six-year-old woman who puts younger people to shame. The only negative to this book is that it is the last in this series.

The story has the edge of the seat suspense, wonderful characters, and everything you could want from a police drama.
