Shocking news comes to Connor Wild, the drummer for Warrior Black, while they are in the middle of recording their next album. But the loss of his father brings forth terrible memories Connor had along ago buried and leads him straight to the nightmare he wants to forget. Only saving grace is the bodyguard, who can make his body thrum, and helps him to forget the past.

Bodyguard, John Brand has been with Warrior Black since their rise to fame, after their appearance at last year’s Rocktoberfest in Black Rock, Nevada. His choice to stay as protection is solely for the drummer, who he can’t get out of his head. John wants more, but Connor refuses to see them no less than a hookup.

Can John beat away the dark demons from Connor’s past? Will Connor risk it all and expose the dark truth to John? Can Connor move on and give John a chance for love?

Connor would have to go Beyond the Stix to see how true love can heal old wounds.

Although I didn’t read book one it didn’t stop me from totally enjoying this one. I will make sure though that I read all the next ones.

Connor Wild is the drummer for Warrior Black but a phone call from his mom would change his life. His father had a heart attack and isn’t expected to make it, so he rushes home. His band mates who were also close to Connor’s father are there by his side including his bodyguard John Brand. Months earlier Connor had words with his father, and they hadn’t spoken for a long time now it looks like he will not have a chance to apologize and tell him how much he loved him.

The argument was about Connor’s Uncle Jessup and an incident that occurred when he was nine years old, an incident he lied about to his parents and an incident he has never revealed to his best friends. After his father’s funeral his uncle kept trying to reach out to him, but Connor wanted no part of him.

John has strong feelings for Connor and wants to know what happened when he was a child, but Connor’s lips are sealed. With Rocktoberfest, his father’s death and his uncle’s constant harassment Connor has a full plate, and it will not empty out any time soon.

John and Connor do have sex but after they separate and stop talking their biggest problem is their lack of communication and John’s insistence on knowing what Connor is going through. His band mates are his best friends and are by his side through everything, but some things Connor won’t share with them.

Jessup is a constant in his life and no matter how many times he tells him to leave him alone he just keeps pushing the envelope. John and all the guys worry about Connor and his bouts of anger and depression but try as they may they can’t get through to him.

This was another wonderful addition to the Road to Rocktoberfest series, a multi author series and all the books’ standalones. This is my second year following this series and I can’t wait for more. Handsome rock stars living rock and roll lives. If you are unfamiliar with this series, I highly recommend starting, you won’t be sorry.
