Lane Benning and his four Navy SEALS buddies have all retired and are now enjoying spending time vacationing with each other. They are now attending a retirement party in Hawaii which of course, he was late for as usual. He was busy trying to flirt with a woman that caught his attention in a pink bikini. He finally made it, and all was going well until the volcano on the other side of the island erupted.

Hawk has opened a new Brotherhood Protectors in Hawaii and after the volcano erupted it was all hands-on deck to supply whatever help was needed. When Hawk gets a call to help on a kidnapping and Lane sees a picture of the woman, he was lusting over at the beach he immediately volunteers.

Cassie Marner works for the Guardian Agency and her case is to guard the Knowles family, mother, father and two children. The mother is a civilian employee at the Pentagon and has been getting threats, the trip to Hawaii was supposed to be a vacation from all the stress only her partner Drake and the thirteen-year-old Josie did not return from a zipline tour.

Lane takes Cassie to search for the girl following any leads taking them through rough terrain to hopefully find any evidence that can lead them in the right direction. While searching they come across Drake, beaten within an inch of his life, and a call for help from his buddies brought the cavalry to the rescue . He advises them that Josie broke the zip ties on her wrists and got away but it is dark and finding her won’t be easy.

With luck on their side Josie is discovered and while returning her to her family they are shot at. Lane is convinced that Josie was bait to get at Cassie. He refuses to leave her side despite her constant complaints and insistence that she can take care of herself. Her complaints fall on deaf ears because Lane will do anything to protect her.

They are constantly followed; they are shot at, and they are in constant danger till the guilty party is found. There are suspicions but without proof they are meaningless. Wherever they hide they are found which isn’t difficult when the guilty party doesn’t hesitate to beat people to near death.

While Lane and Cassie are together, they begin to feel a deep attraction to each other, well Lane already had an attraction to her, but Cassie is feeling the same. The search for the guilty party, staying alive and wanting time to work on their feelings is not easy but watching as Lane and Cassie go about it is worth the price of admission.

I love all of Regan Black’s books and when I realized a new series started, I was ecstatic. There are four more ex-Navy SEALs who have stories to tell, and I can’t wait. Every series I have read has had amazing characters, suspense, mystery, lies, betrayal and sex what’s not to love.
