Even the strongest of vampires has a breaking point: for Marcelle, it was being tortured by a witch in New York and trying to return to her regular existence as if nothing had happened. She has too much to do to allow herself to focus on something as trivial as trauma.
Occult hunters accost her witch allies; an aggravating pyromancer needles a fiery thorn in her side; and the coronation of one of her lovers, the vampire crown prince of New Ulster, Setanta, has her full attention. Not only that, but her newest lover, the necromancer and healing witch Sarai, has trials of her own to face and a reckoning to come with her formal introduction to the vampire royal court at the Midnight Festival. Marcelle and her lovers must face the demons of the past and future, or she may lose the new love desperately needs.

I want to start by saying that if you have not read book one, Witches Knight, then that is where you should begin. We follow the life of Sarai Reinhart, a witch with the power of necromancy and healing. This book picks up after the first book ends and it is important to start her story from the beginning.
Now for those who have read book one and are waiting for answers, I can promise you won’t be disappointed. Thanks to Sarai’s half-sister Alma she lost the use of her hand but saved Setanto. The coronation has finally taken place and now he is King Setanto. The allies that he made with the Ellis Coven are attending but still have trouble accepting the vampire’s customs and are very unaccepting of Sarai insisting on staying with the vampires rather than their coven.
Sarai has many enemies, her father still wants her, some vampires are not accepting of a witch mingling with vampires and now she has a new one, Queen Giovanna, Setanta’s stepmother. She visited Sarai in her room and compelled her to go to the balcony where she held her in the air threatening to kill her if she doesn’t leave, this time she is saved by Setanta.
We learn about Sarai’s imaginary childhood friend, Liora, who she is and why she is always around to warn her of danger. Sarai and Marcelle have found love and unlike humans sharing bed partners is no big deal. The truce between Ellis Coven and Setanta proves to everyone that his wishes for peace are honest. When a witch’s family is attacked by the Vasi’s a team of vampires and witches go after the ones captured and were able to work together to free them.
Sarai is feeling comfortable and safe living with the vampires and there is no denying how different her living arrangements are after her life of poverty, but it is her love for Marcelle that gives her peace. Setanta constantly reassures her that no one will harm her and live but since she is a target for many people his guard is always up. Vampires and witches once enemies are now allies fighting against an organization determined to wipe them all out. No matter how strong a vampire is and how magically gifted a witch is they are stronger together.
At his coronation Setanta made it clear to all the pure bloods in attendance that he would not accept harm coming to the witches in his area and he proved it when one vampire tried to attack one of the witches and found himself facing severe punishment.
Lies, secrets, surprises and hot, kinky f/f/m sex. Sarai, Marcelle and Setanta are amazing characters and when I got to the end of the book, I was disappointed, which I can honestly say I don’t remember it happening before. I believe the series is over, but I hope I am wrong and with enough great reviews Ms. Silver might consider more.
