Calculus is kicking Will Hargrove’s butt. When fellow student Tom Dawson suggests they study together, both hope it will improve their grades in the college class. Will Hargrove is in college, and everything is good except for the bane of his life Calculus. Hoping that he will pass but doubting it, he is just waiting for that course to be over. Then he meets another guy from his class who like Will is suffering through Calculus, Tom Dawson.

The two men decide that two head are better than one and are going to study together and amazingly they finally begin to understand the subject. Spending time together they grow close, and Will wants to build a relationship, but Tom does not seem to be on the same page.

Tom’s mother has been brainwashing him about relationships, they don’t work is her constant sermon. After constant cheating Tom’s mother left his father and he never contacted them. His mother has grown bitter and constantly tries to talk Tom out of falling in love. It is Tom’s best friend Char who is constantly the voice of reason and tries to get Tom to accept that there are men out there that will love him and stick with him.

The opposite of Tom, Will’s mother is anxious for Will to find love. His father died when Will was young, but their home was filled with love. Now Will has a difficult road ahead of him convincing Tom that he is not a man who would hurt him.
