Percy de Villiers has it all: wealth, status, and a famous name—until his father’s political scandal brings everything crashing down. Struggling with the fallout, Percy retreats to the South African wilderness to focus on his passion, nature photography. But even in the vast beauty of his homeland, he can’t escape the weight of his family's disgrace or the loneliness that shadows him.

Rob Hale, a Hawaiian travel writer by way of Atlanta, has spent years idolizing Percy from afar. When an assignment brings him face-to-face with his photography hero, he doesn’t expect their connection to spark more than professional admiration. But a chance encounter leads to an unexpected hookup, and the chemistry between them is undeniable.

As Percy grapples with the emotional wreckage left by his father’s arrest, and Rob struggles with his own self-doubts, their fling starts to feel like something more. Navigating cultural differences, class divides, and the looming cloud of Percy’s family drama, the two men must decide if they can turn their brief romance into something lasting—or if their relationship will fall apart before it ever truly begins

Six Places to Fall in Love is a heartfelt romance about intimacy, identity, and finding love in unexpected places.

Percy de Villiers is a nature photographer well known and popular. Unfortunately, he is now known for being the son of the Minister of Health in South Africa who has stolen millions of dollars earmarked for AIDS and HIV. Wherever he goes he is the subject of gossip and hatred. He has removed himself from his family, his mother who is standing by his father and from his father, but it hasn’t stopped people from their feelings of “like father, like son.”
He has advertised for journalists to spend a week with him in the bush and picked a man his agent wasn’t thrilled with. Rob Hale is a travel writer but not as successful as other men who had applied. The fact that Rob is gay was a large part of why he picked him, one less thing to be concerned about.
Percy is attracted to Rob and sharing a tent makes it difficult. As they walk looking for animals Rob can’t hide his enthusiasm making Percy happy. Rob trusts Percy to protect him, elephants, impala and two lions, both males having sex. The author’s descriptions of the bush gave me a view of what it would be like to go on an African safari, something that I will never get to do.
The more time the two men spend together the more attracted they get till they finally give in to their feelings. Percy is a very shy man, not comfortable around people and not comfortable being interviewed, but he finds himself opening up with Rob.
When the week was over, they spent time together at the Safari camp and then spending time together in Cape Town at Percy’s place. Percy can’t get away from people photographing him as if him showing happiness after his father’s crime is unacceptable. He suffers from panic attacks, but Rob is able to calm him down. But time is running out for them and Rob will be returning to Atlanta.
They decide to try a long-distance relationship, but something happens, and all their plans fall apart. Rob leaves and Percy and Rob are alone, but Percy is angry and blames Rob for what happened.
The visit to South Africa was exciting and beautifully written. I learned a lot about what happens on a safari and about the animals and how to stay safe from them.
