Descended from the mighty Somerled, Lord of the Isles, Steinar MacDougall’s supremacy over the seas is fierce. On a quest for King William, he is captured by the enemy and presented with a favorable opportunity. Yet Steinar soon realizes his greatest threat comes from the woman who hides behind the mask of a warrior, and the quest for control might send them hurdling into the abyss of the sea.

As leader of the Serpents, Inga the Ruthless travels beyond the isles bartering for goods with her brothers. After rescuing the feared Pirate Wolf during a storm, she surrenders her trust to the man and his inner wolf in order to claim the lost treasure of Odin. Though the journey is fraught with dangers, Inga fears her heart might be the one in peril, leading her to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Will the sea be their salvation or doom them to a watery grave?

Steinar MacDougall is known as the Pirate Wolf, part of the Wolves of Clan Sutherland, half man and half wolf and is a master of the sea. During a huge storm Steinar falls overboard and is drowning being dragged under by a siren. Saved, he is brought on a ship he first assumes is his but unfortunately, it belongs to Clan Olafsson and now he is their prisoner.

The leader of the clan is Inga the Ruthless and although he could release his wolf and create havoc and freedom, he calmly sits in chains waiting to discover why he is being held and what the clan wants from him, and it doesn’t hurt that Inga is beautiful and he is very attracted to her. Steinar’s knowledge of the sea is legendary and only he can navigate them through treacherous waters to find the Cove of Grima where Odin’s treasure is buried.

Steinar’s first order of business is a return to his home in Islay and a long overdue visit with his uncle. Along with Inga and two of her brothers they arrive at the castle and after months at sea are happy to have a few days of R&R. Steinar’s uncle has hired a mercenary to guard him and he is a man Steinar hates and distrusts. When it becomes apparent that they must leave the island Steinar and Inga give in to their feelings and there is no question that those feelings are very powerful.

Steinar and Inga both have secrets about their pasts and hers is a doozy. Both bastards with no rights to property or any other benefits is something that brings them closer, but her secret could put an early end to their relationship. Finding the treasure of a God, a God that Steinar embraces could prove deadly, it is not unheard of for the Gods and Goddesses to play tricks and test their subjects.

Steinar is unaware of a betrayal happening within the castle of his uncle, a betrayal that could mean his uncle’s death. This betrayal is an amazing moment in this book, who is the betrayer, what happens to his uncle and what Steinar’s actions would be in revenging his uncle if he indeed is dead. The betrayer has a long reach because he is right behind Steinar ready to kill all that stand in his way of retrieving the treasure.

Steinar and Inga’s relationship grows, and it is beautiful watching as they finally let all doubts go and determinately push for a HEA. What Steinar doesn’t know is the secret Inga is hiding and it is a secret that could put a permanent end to any HEA. When he discovers what is standing between him and the woman who has totally captured his heart, he is willing to fight anyone that stands in his way, but this may be a fight he can’t win.

If you are not familiar with this series than I highly recommend doing so, Vikings, danger, romance, sex, lies, secrets and none stop excitement. Each book can be read alone but it is such a waste to miss out on the other members of the Clan as they meet the one destined to be their other half. Steinar and Inga are two opposites who together make a perfect match, they say opposites attract and it proves true.

I hope that there will be more in this series and if there is hopefully it won’t be a very long wait. In the meantime, there are other books by Ms. Morgan, each one a winner in my book.
