When Georgia Fenclan hits thirty, the Type-A barista-slash-businesswoman hopes she’s done being the bridesmaid and never the bride. The Half-Orc blonde bombshell is ready to meet someone who will woo her, win her, bed her, and wed her—but the right man doesn’t seem to exist in cozy paranormal Pine Ridge.

At least, that’s what she thinks until a tall green hunk of gentlemanly goodness strolls into her coffee shop and quite literally takes her breath away.

Widower Douglas Wickstaff flies in from Scotland to attend a wedding in Pine Ridge out of familial duty. The last thing he wants to do is watch a happy couple tie the knot after he had to watch his own married life unravel. When he meets Georgia Fenclan, his dormant instincts awaken, and his cold heart starts to thaw under her sunny smile and no-nonsense humor. But Douglas knows he can’t be her Mr. Right. Life has taught him that where love is concerned, he’ll always be Mr. Wrong. To guard both of their hearts, Douglas is determined to hightail it back to the Highlands.

But Douglas should know his life never goes according to plan. He’s barely had time to unpack before his job unexpectedly transfers him to New York. What once seemed like a welcome escape from his painful past is suddenly a trap. How can he resist falling in love with the one woman who makes him forget his loneliness? On the other hand, how can he be selfish enough to indulge his desires when he believes Georgia can do so much better than a quiet, taciturn man like him?

As Douglas tries to put distance between them, will Georgia be able to help this wounded widower see that he deserves a second shot at love?

Georgia is preparing for her twin, Georgie’s wedding, once again a bridesmaid and not a bride. Georgia is now thirty and is waiting for Mr. Right and when he walks into the coffee shop, she and Georgie own she is speechless.

Douglas Wickstaff has been a widower for eleven years and although he is attracted to Georgia that attraction will stay a secret. Douglas blames himself for his wife’s death convinced that he was not a good husband and failed to make her happy. He will never consider having a relationship knowing he will just fail again.

Douglas arrived from Scotland for Georgie’s wedding taking his brother’s place since he was injured. Friends with Georgia’s father there is no doubt that he is older than Georgia but that makes no difference to her, she has waited a long time for the right man and now he is here but could have been a million miles away since he doesn’t show any sign of caring for her.

With the wedding over Douglas flies back home but a phone call will change his life. His company has offered him to relocate to New York and since he can’t get Georgia out of his mind he accepts. He is ready to give a relationship with Georgia a chance. He and his wife, Nicola were married two years but after the first few months she became distant and no matter how hard he tried to make her happy he couldn’t. He blames himself; he didn’t give her what she needed and what if that happens again.

Seeing Douglas again Georgia is determined to help him get over the pain he feels for failing his wife. He is the “one” and she will do whatever she has to reach him. Douglas is unable to resist Georgia but his failure with Nicola is always front and center in his mind.

Little by little Douglas accepts that Georgia is his “person”, but he still must deal with his past.

Douglas and Georgia are wonderful characters, Georgia is part human and part Orc, but she looks human while her twin is all Orc. She always dreamed about being with an Orc and now she has what she always wanted but Douglas’ past may stand in the way of having a happily after.

If you are familiar with Ms. Principal’s Pine Ridge series, then you know that Georgia, Georgie and his now wife Claire first appeared in “The Orc’s Christmas Romance”. Pine Ridge is a magical town where supernatural’s live in harmony with humans and each book is a must read according to this reviewer.
