Newly minted firefighter Chase van Casten has always seen things others miss—except when it comes to love—so when a string of fires pops up at his new job, he knows right away that something isn’t right. Unfortunately, the only person who believes him is the owner of one of the burned properties.

Jerrod Whipkey lost everything he owned when his home burned. Investigators determine the fire’s cause to be faulty wiring, but as an electrician, Jerrod checked it over thoroughly. Now he’s in danger of losing his reputation along with everything else.

While Chase and Jerrod try to untangle the truth behind the fires, the heat between them builds to white-hot. But while Chase keeps Jerrod at arm’s length, the arsonist seems to have both of them in their sights. Can they forge a way forward with their hearts intact and uncover the arsonist before they get burned?

They also have another shifter to rescue from the same camp: Seth’s father, Jake Carson. Except Jake is Dellan’s father too, captured by the Gerans three decades ago and until recently, believed to be dead. The camp is like a fortress, and the rescue operation is looking like an impossible quest.

What no one anticipated was help from an unexpected source. Dellan is about to learn why the power-hungry Gerans took his father in the first place--and what they want next.

In this latest installment of Lions, Tigers & Bears, K.C. Wells doubles down on the intrigue… and the passion.

Chase van Casten is a new fireman called out on a house fire where he believes he sees someone in the upstairs window. When he climbs up, he discovers a little boy and safely brings him down. It seems a babysitter left when the fire broke out and left the little boy by himself. When his father Jerrod Whipkey sees his son, he is overcome with emotion he almost lost the most important thing in his life.
No house, everything lost but his son safe Jerrod books a hotel room and is in the restaurant eating with his six-year-old son Peter when he sees the fireman who saved his life. Asking Chase to join them for dinner Chase learns that the little boy is Jerrod’s nephew. After his brother’s death and his mother losing her parental rights, Jerrod is determined to keep Peter safe and happy.
The report on the fire indicates it was electrical, and Jerrod is an independent electrician and if his house burned down due to something he was responsible for his reputation would suffer. Chase is the one that notices the real cause of the fire and Jerrod is cleared of any wrongdoing. Unfortunately, the insurance company is taking their time in issuing any money for the lose.
With Chase’s help and the other firemen Jerrod would find a place to rent and is surprised by all the donations the firemen make to him, furniture, kitchen appliances even towels and sheets. Peter was adorable and loaded up the hotel bed with all the towels since theirs were burned up. For a six-year-old he is very smart.
Then things go from bad to worse when Jerrod’s ex-sister-in law shows up demanding he let her see her son while other fires by what is now assumed to be arsonist are showing up. Now Jerrod and Chase are involved with the fire department and police department in an attempt to try to find the reason behind the fires.
As the search begins for the arsonist Chase and Jerrod begin to have feelings for each other but are Jerrod’s feelings due to the fact that Chase saved Peter.
The story was exciting as everyone tries to determine the reason behind the fires and how to stop them. The book takes us on a journey of following clues and getting answers as to who in Jerrod’s life could be to blame, could it be his ex-sister-in-law or one of two men he fired.
There are surprises, an adorable little boy smart beyond his years and two men who want to be together but question their reason behind their feelings.
