Two kingdoms, Vasnaq and Tarlantin have been at war for four years, a war started by Vasnaq’s king. The king is General Albion Rasendin’s uncle, an uncle he didn’t hesitate to kill when he saw him raping the daughter of the king of Tarlantin. Hoping that by killing that king responsible for so much hurt Albion sent the girl home with a delegate to offer peace. The peace was refused, the delegate never returned, and the princess was sent away so she couldn’t reveal details of what happened before her return.
As General Albion fought together with his army an army now starving and tired, it was time for surrender. During the years of war Albion became known as the Winter Fox and it was his decision to send his men away hoping that capturing the most hated man in Tarlantin, Prince Treynar would leave his men alone to find freedom. Standing in the middle of the road, sword in front of him and kneeling Albion presented himself to the enemy prepared to die. Unfortunately, his horse got in the way and was killed and then landed on top of Albion.
Near death Albion’s fate would rest with the King, if he died before arriving in Tarlantin that would be the end of it but if he survived which seemed unlikely his death would be in front of all the citizens watching as the man responsible for the war dies. Locked up and chained Albion awaits certain death but when Trey’s twin sister the one raped by Albion and the King returns home the truth is revealed, a truth that would change Albion’s fate.
Albion will become Trey’s slave a fate that would probably be worse than death. It was Draven, the prince’s half-brother, that would temper Trey’s hatred so that Albion fared better than expected. Draven, a bastard, was disregarded by everyone in the palace including the king. It was only his brother that was always there for him.
Draven became a possession of Trey’s and he always demanded Draven be by his side. His obsession with his brother left Draven feeling like a prisoner but Trey had his hooks in him and wouldn’t let go. Albion is chained, a collar around his neck and is made to succumb to all of Trey’s madness. Draven tried to intercede when he could, to ensure Albion got medical care, food and was kept warm. Before the war all three men knew each other and Draven was in awe of the man Albion is and fell in love with him but unaware of the truth of what brought about the war sees him as an enemy but can’t get himself to hate him.
It would take one act of violence against Albion that would change how Draven saw his brother and one reveal from the king that would forever change his life. Trey knew the truth about everything but his hatred for Albion just grew. The more Draven cared about the Winter Fox the more Trey did everything in his power to make Albion pay. Draven caring about Albion was unacceptable which made Draven very careful about the times he was with him.
I had a hard time with this review because I had to curb my desire to reveal all. Time and time during the book one surprise and one secret after another made me want to write about them but I refused to give away any spoilers. This is a book that you must read to fully understand everything that happens and trust me, a lot happens.
Violence, betrayal, lies, secrets and romance. Three men living in a palace and only one of them is free to leave. Draven wants out but Trey will never allow it, Albion is a slave and getting out is impossible and Trey is the one holding their strings.
Wow I loved this book, the characters and the fact that there was not one moment of boredom, couldn’t put it down for fear of missing something that is the mark of an amazing book.
