Piper Rose works for Stick and Stones recovering artifacts, she has never seen anyone because all communications are done via text or email and this hunt for a missing Codix she hopes will bring her to the attention of her bosses and lead to a promotion. The only fly in the ointment is that she has to work with Lux Roman an incubus who, like her, is an artifact hunter and her company has requested his help. Piper and Lux are at each other all the time; she resents the fact that he needs to accompany her and he doesn’t hesitate to do everything in is demonly power to aggravate her.
Lux along with his best friends and partners Cassius a werewolf and Ozi a vampire created an organization called Sons of the Fallen. Lux knows that someone else is after the Codix, a book that in the wrong hands could be deadly and that someone is Kade, a siphon who was once part of the Sons of the Fallen till he went rogue. The search starts in Cuba and Piper is convinced that Lux is keeping things from her, making her angry while trying to keep her desire for the sexy demon under control.
Piper and Lux have pasts that have made them distrustful and cold and while they both are attracted to each other they manage to do everything they can to push each other away but that can only last so long before the inevitable happens. Piper was hurt by her professor while in college and Lux was the sex slave and whipping boy for Lilith his creator until she released him with the promise that he would never find love and would always crave sex which he would require to live since he is an incubus. Two broken people on a mission to find an artifact who have to learn to trust and believe that love is possible for them after what they went through in the past.
The search for the Codix reveals secrets and puts Piper in danger and as the two of them let their walls down and recognize their feelings for each other the enemy is getting closer. This was a wonderful addition to this series and if you read book one then you are familiar with Ozi and his lady love Raven who also happens to be Piper’s roommate and Cassius. Cassius, Raven and Ozi are all present in this book and I couldn’t put the book down. Secrets, lies, betrayals, sex, romance and violence kept this book from ever getting boring and as I write this review, I am hoping that book three is in the works and that Cassius will be the focus, well I can hope can’t I.
Although this is a standalone book, I highly recommend reading the book one first so you don’t miss out on even one moment of the excitement in this series.
