MM Shifter Romance

A reunion. A betrayal. A battle that could be decisive for everyone.

Mathew just wants to forget the past and move on with his life, accepting the loneliness that rules his life and in which he takes refuge. But everything will change when he receives a call. His little sister invites him to her wedding, and he can't let her down. He has no choice but to return to the DarkWolf pack and face the wolves that marked his childhood.

Return to the family home, be a good brother by participating in the wedding as the best man and run away at the first opportunity. Simple, isn't it? Well, no. Everything will explode as soon as he enters the DarkWolf grounds, especially when he meets the alpha again. Why the hell did fate hate him so much?

Kendrew McKinley never expected to come face to face with the one man who dominates his dreams and tortures his days with his absence: Mathew McGregor. As an alpha, his duty is to protect his people not... howl in despair at the arrival of the tiger.

Fate will witness the explosive fight that will shake the herd, changing their history forever.

Will they survive?

This book starts with a quick glance into the difficult childhood of the main character, Mathew, and sets the groundwork for some intense angst in Mathew’s adulthood. He is asked to attend his sister’s wedding, and he dreads returning to the source of his torment. Kendrew, the pack alpha, will need to deal with his own torment when Mathew returns to the DarkWolf pack grounds. The emotional challenges Mathew and Kendrew face are a constant source of tension that keeps the reader turning pages in the hopes that these two will find some resolution. I appreciated how well the author conveyed the emotional tension which was clear even after being translated from another language.

I enjoy exploring books that are translated into English. Some books even motivate me to try and learn another language just so I can see the subtle nuances in translations. This book reminded me that I still haven’t learned enough Spanish yet, because I would really like to read the Spanish version of this book. Sheyla Drymon is skilled at creating an action fueled romance that moves at a fast pace, and I want to know what the rhythm of the author’s words reads like in the original Spanish version. This book was hard to put down because one action scene flowed right into the next with just a few brief moments of reflection to allow the reader time to catch their breath. I liked the intense pace of the story, and the resolution was satisfying.

This book was the third installment in the SoulMate series, but each book is a standalone. This book works well by itself and does not require any background from the previous books. The series designation mostly defines the world that the books are set in. The connections between each book are subtle.

Overall this was a good read. I would like to see a bit more proofreading done for the translation because I liked the premise and the pacing of the story, and I would like to see the author’s skills reflected a little more clearly in the translation. I recommend this book if you are looking for a fast paced romance with some epic angst.
