Caden Silverwind is a warrior angel whose last battle with dark demons nearly destroyed his soul and body. Physically healing in the Colorado Rockies he has taken an indefinite sabbatical with no intention of returning to an eternity of fighting demons. While walking to build up his stamina he comes across a naked, beaten and near death woman with a Bureau of Indian Affairs ID next to her. With unreliable cell service and roads that would hinder an ambulance he has no choice but to take her into his trailer and heal her. Although he is not totally fit he does his best to bring this mortal woman back to life. Of course it is forbidden for warrior angels to associate with mortal women and now he has one lying in his bed. The only plus side is that he is on sabbatical.
Mystic Rayne’s injuries appear to be from a wolf bite and when she wakes up she confesses to Caden a secret kept by her tribe, some of them can shapeshift including Mystic. At a gathering Ethan Nix who manages the River Winds casino asked for Mystic’s hand in marriage and she turned him down that was when he attacked her. Mystic left the reservation years ago to go out on her own and became a lawyer but she returned to find her father the tribe shaman ill and dying. When he died she was assigned his position on the tribal council and in time would hopefully accept his position as shaman. Ethan did not love Mystic but he wanted access to the power she has with the council.
Caden finds out that Mystic’s life is still in danger and the one who nearly killed her is still looking for her body. There is no doubt if it is discovered she is still alive he would not hesitate to kill her. Caden knows he is getting more involved with Mystic then he expected to and has no choice but to confess to her what he really is. The simplest way to show her was to release his wings leaving no doubt in her mind what he is.
The casino is in trouble with Ethan running it and it becomes obvious that he is not the one in charge, he is being controlled by demons who have a specific reason for wanting his involvement and access to the reservation land. It will take Caden, Mystic and the demon overlord Bruce in addition to help from other warrior angels to correct what is going on. There is going to be a battle between good and evil and it will take all hands to win.
I loved this book as much as the previous ones, there is sex, romance, sexy angels and strong minded take no prisoners women. The men are all protectors and their women are all for protecting themselves so it makes the dialogue between them quite interesting.
