t was supposed to be over: The Utah Facility discovered, New World Genetics dismantled, and the people hunting Luca, dead.
Finally, Nox and Luca could start their life together.
Then strangers, who call themselves Varu, come to Luca for help.
They call him Cana and claim he’s the only one who can bring back their wolves.
The Varu tell Luca and Nox how a people called Mah are responsible for the atrocities of the Utah facility, unearthing the ichor and infecting Nox with the Anubis.
How the creature will consume Nox’s mind.
How he will become the monster.
Then it will destroy Luca.
But they can stop that from happening if Nox is willing to risk death by letting them purge him of the ichor.
As far as Nox is concerned, it’s a small price to pay to keep Luca safe.
Luca can’t convince Nox that the Anubis isn’t the mindless entity the Varu claim it to be, that it’s not a danger to him or anyone else.
When Nox won’t listen to reason, Luca decides to use the Anubis to help him save the man he loves.
After all, Luca is Nox’s Alpha.
And the Anubis is really Luca’s wolf to call.

I anxiously waited for book two since I loved book one and expected to feel the same when this book came out, but unfortunately that was not the case. This is a series that has to be read in order but since it was a long time between the two, I had to try to refresh my memory and if you have not read any of this series yet then you are lucky to have the two books back-to-back.
This is a first for me loving the start of a series only to be totally disappointed with the sequel. This is a book that is over 500 pages and it seemed that the author tried to cover so much that it left me putting the book down at times because it was so slow moving, so many characters and so many story lines that rather than not being able to put book one down this was not a problem with book two. This was a case of overload and the two main characters Nox and Luca were not the main center of attention.
A great deal of the book was about Dr. Reese Dante and Jonathan Dekker and then a new character appears, Isaiah and his pack looking for Luca to save them. Luca meets with Isaiah and learns that he is a Cana the one that can unite the Varu with their wolves but Luca finds it hard to believe. Isaiah also tries his best to convince Luca that Nox is dangerous the Anubis living inside him will eventually turn on Luca and kill him. Luca knows that the Anubis is a danger but Nox is nothing but loving and fights the creature with everything he has.
Isaiah has to convince both Nash (Nox) and Luca that they need his help or the Anubis will eventually consume Nox leaving death in its wake. When the story centers on Nox and Luca it regains my attention watching as they run from the military sleeping in their van little money for food and only their love for each other and determination to protect each other is all that consumes them.
I found myself lost with all the history and characters but then when an author feels it is necessary to list explanations of who is who then I know I will be left feeling disappointed. I know that the author has plans for more books in this series but I am not looking forward to them. The final half of the book finally caught my interest but it still wasn’t enough. I should note that the majority of reviews for this book were fours and fives so like all reviews they are an individual’s personal opinion.
