It has been four years since Tegan Ashton was attacked by what she assumed was a crazed man who left her with a scar on her neck where he bit her. She had a breakdown after the attack and now she is consumed with the desire to protect herself and is a black belt and the owner of her own dojo.
One night while watching the ocean through a webcam she sees a man burying a woman on the beach, when he turns around he is the very same man that attacked her four years ago. With no help from the police she decides that she needs a P.I. to help her find the man, only like with the police the private investigators she called all turned her down. The last call she makes is the one that will change her life.
Gabriel V.H. Smith, private investigator and paranormal investigator, sounds like the man for the job. Who else would hire a paranormal investigator? Gabe sees the scar on her neck and instantly knows that she was not attacked by a man but by a demon; he should know since he is a demon slayer. There is an instant attraction between Gabe and Tegan, and he is determined to find and destroy the demon who put such fear into her eyes. His only problem is he is dealing with a very stubborn woman who is sure that she can take care of herself, which she could if she were dealing with a normal human, which she is not.
Gabe’s only recourse is to tell Tegan what is after her and that alone she doesn’t stand a chance. Before she even has time to think they are attacked by a minor demon; she now has to face the reality that demons exist. Why is the demon after Tegan? Why after four years has he once again resurfaced where she is? Can Gabe save her?
Both Gabe and Tegan have pasts that haunt them, pasts that keep them from going forward with their lives. Tegan’s has a past with the demon that attacked her. Gabe’s has a past with a fiancĂ©e and family who were killed. Who killed Gabe’s family? Why is he determined not to allow himself to every have a relationship?
Gabe and Tegan are both such wonderful characters. Together they make an amazing team, however, being a team is something they don’t want, or do they? Can they both put their pasts behind them and find love and peace with each other? The book had a surprise I never saw coming and I couldn’t put it down till I had all the answers. I also loved the fact that this was a stand-alone book and I was not left feeling let down, so I say YEAH.
