RR Angell takes us onto a college campus and into a world where virtual reality and artificial intelligence gaming is part of everyday living. Combining the elements of science fiction, with a well done morality conflict, as well as a romantic storyline, this book does not shy away from any of the hard questions. I will admit the technicalities of the VR and AI pieces of the story were a bit overwhelming. This is way out of my normal realm of experience, but luckily with gamers in the house, I was able to have some pretty amazing conversations about the themes brought up in this book. The star rating is entirely due to the fact that non gamers and readers without computer knowledge may find themselves lost in these sections.
Luckily for me, Robby was such an endearing character, that I was invested in finding out how he navigated the challenges in both his real world and the virtual one, especially as they began to overlap in some really odd, and possibly sinister, ways. This would be a great book for an ethics class, particularly for programmers!
