Lake Lanier holds a secret beneath its cold water…. a secret of “time”. The Steward family has quickly become the protector of this huge undisclosed enigma. Lacey had just come back from her time slip and her two friends, Nick and Piper, seem to have bonded while watching her at the hospital. Nick knows that there is an undeniable connection between him and Piper, but a guilt of a past relationship eats away at him.
Lacey has woken and the family is preoccupied caring for her. Nick takes advantage of this and slips away. He knows the secret of the Lake and takes advantage of it. He returns to New York in 2001…a few days before the catastrophic events of 9/11. What lengths will Nick go to in order to expunge his guilt?
With knowledge of Nick being in danger, Piper volunteers to travel back and assist him…more like prevent him from “stepping on butterflies.” Their love brings them together each time they drift. Will Piper be able to stop Nick from altering the future? Will they be able to travel back to their time? Their love…will it transcend these lifechanging experiences?
We all have mistakes that we wish we could go back and change…for Nick he has that chance. Casi did a great job showing the gentle fabric of time and how easily it can be ruined. The characters are relatable and the plot moves nicely. A tale filled with love passing through the barriers of time, time travel, and coming to terms with past mistakes… it brings something for everyone. I enjoyed this story and Casi was incredibly accurate with her details of 9/11. Overall, this was a great, fast paced read that I would recommend to anyone who loves more than just romance in a novel…this brings so much more.
I can’t believe I just saw this review. Thanks so much for such a beautifully written account of Beyond The Mist. If you love this story, be sure to check out Beneath The Lake, the story that sparked my Lake Lanier Mysteries…and Between The Shadows, book three in the series.
