On an alternate earth, a cataclysm has altered a subset of the population. Talents are persecuted for their psychic and physical mutations, giving rise to two conflicting societies based upon maintaining genetic purity. And the Source, a shadowy corporate entity dependent upon the exploitation of captive Talents, is hunting them…
Self-exiled to the Outside, Flynn Scot is oath-bound to a life of strict penance.
Cursed with a vicious temper and haunted by the blood-stained debauchery of his past, Flynn’s sworn off women, whiskey, and violence, and doesn’t give a damn about whispers of the coming war. He sure as hell isn’t in the mood to make good on a debt when it’s called in, especially when playing white knight outs him as a Talent, and the damsel in distress as his soulmate.
On the run from her future as a broodmare for the Source, escaped Talent Kara Jester is no distressed damsel.
And the last thing she wants is to be trapped in a blizzard with a surly—and frustratingly captivating—thug. Without the suppression meds holding her libido in check, her biology’s primed to procreate, and Flynn’s growled assurances that he won’t touch her doesn’t match the hunger in his eyes.
It doesn’t align with what fate has in store for them, either.
With elite troops hot on their heels and the border set to close, it’s a race to the North, away from Kara’s horrific future and towards the dark past Flynn wants to keep buried. Clinging to the shreds of his oath, he’s forced to choose between protecting the woman he’s afraid to love and letting out the animal he swore he’d never be again. Either may destroy him, if Kara’s secrets don’t get them killed first.

Flynn made the mistake of rejecting a woman and it led to his being butchered, scars all over his body, a broken nose and a damaged knee. Flynn is ready to put his past behind him, no women, no alcohol and no more violence. Just one more thing to do and he will head North only he is called by Cal a man more of a father to him than his own father to pick up a woman before she succumbs to the freezing weather and ice.
When he finds her, she collapses suffering from hyperthermia. With the weather so bad continuing is not feasible so he takes her to his coop. Kara awakens to find herself with a stranger only is he friend or foe. Flynn does everything in his power to provide for her and keep her comfortable, but the coop is freezing, and he tries to keep her warm.
Kara begins to trust Flynn but can’t keep her lust under control. Kara is a breeder and without her medicine her sexual desires are running amok. Flynn made a promise no more women and he fears if he gives in, he will hurt her, but Kara is strong and doesn’t give up.
Kara is a Talent able to manipulate reality and the halos around her irises is a dead giveaway.
The population has been severely compromised after a catastrophic event with strange abilities and they are called Talents. Kara is unwilling to let Flynn off the hook and with enough pressure she succeeds in getting him where she wants him, flat on his back in bed. While having sex she decides to use some of her Talent to heal all his injuries hoping that using a little will not put a target on her back.
Unfortunately, Kara had no clue that Flynn was also a Talent and when she released her Talent the two wound up bonded. Now healed he has a new problem; he and Kara are bonded pretty much married. Getting them safely to the North while she is being hunted and with no one to fully trust will be no easy task.
Those who want Kara are unwilling to let go and enemies are everywhere. After finally breaking his promise to give up women Flynn is now obsessed with Kara and the bond, they share has made it impossible to stay away from her and her from him.
Flynn and Kara both have secrets they are keeping from one another, secrets that could change their lives forever. Their relationship grows strong and their devotion to each other is off the charts.
This book is full of secrets, lies, betrayals, explicit sex and explicit violence. The author has built a scary world filled with scary characters and Flynn and Kara must try to survive it.
Their story is not done and there is so much more to come which I look forward to.
