Sabrina Coven and Walker Hayles meet while locked in cages and tortured. Walker is ex-military and while in military witnessed the beheading of his friend and team member, Jordan something that affected his life and steered him into a career as a freelance investigator. His friend Landon has asked him to find Jolyn Mahn and that job put him in front of a warehouse where he scented another shifter, a female and sight unseen his mate.
Sabrina and her sister Brooke were caged in a plane and she was lucky enough to get free and free Brooke. She got a parachute on Brooke and pushed her out of the plane but she was caught and put back in her cage. Unfortunately, the collar around her neck, a collar that caused pain and injected her with drugs left her incapacitated. She almost got away but she was quickly surrounded and fighting for her life. It was Walker who came to her rescue but she didn’t stay to help she ran.
Running did her no good because she was once again prisoner and treated like an animal. She was given a litter box, bowls with water and kibble and constantly watched and zapped by guards with a love of torture. She kept hearing a male shifter screaming in pain, day after day until she realized that escape was the only thing that could save her life. It would take two people to open the doors and she found the male shifter more dead than alive. Only after getting his collar off giving him the ability to shift did he begin to heal enough to assist on getting them out of there.
The really surprising thing was the very woman he was searching for, Jolyn was the sister of the monster caging shifters. She led them out and gave them keys to a car. Her life now is in as much danger as Sabrina and Walker. On the run Walker is determined to protect his mate at all costs even if it means being nasty to get her moving. Sabrina is a bobcat and Walker is a cougar which makes her distrust him since the guards at the warehouse were cougars.
There is a lot of suspense and a lot of violence which could be disturbing to some people. Sabrina is obsessed with finding her sister and Walker is obsessed with destroying the people who tortured him and hurt Sabrina. They are two people running from a small army and staying hidden proves to be very hard. What happens I will not reveal but I will say that this book is a must for lovers of paranormal romance.
I didn’t read book one but it was not a problem, and now I am hooked on this series and can’t wait for more.
