Sometimes the most desperate struggles take place far from the battlefield, and what happens in secret can change the course of history.
Victory is close at hand, but freedom remains frustratingly just beyond the grasp of German physicist Dr. Kristopher Lehrer, Resistance fighter Michel, and the remaining members of the team sent by the Allies—Captain Matt Bryant, Sergeant Ken Lowe, and Dr. Zhou Liang—as they fight to keep the atomic plans from the Nazis. The team reaches France and connects with members of Michel’s French Resistance cell in Normandy. Allied troops are poised to liberate France, and rescue is supposedly at hand. However, Kristopher is no longer sure the information he carries in his memory is safe with either side.
When StandartenfĂĽhrer Holm and his men finally catch up with their prey, the remaining members of the team are left with few options. With a traitor in their midst, who can they trust? Kristopher realizes he must become something he is not in order to save the man he loves. Death is biding his time, and sacrifices must be made for any of them to have the futures they want.

Kristopher, Michel, Ken, Matt and Liang the soldiers sent to get them out of Germany are still trying to stay one step ahead of SS Officer Holm whose duty is to find Kristopher and get the plans for the atomic bomb he possess.
Since being captured by Holm and receiving torture at his hands Matt and Liang are filled with memories of what they went through and the thought of recapture gives them sleepless nights. The assignment to get Kristopher out of Germany and his plans into the hands of the Allies has not gone according to plan and time and again they find themselves running for their lives.
They have finally arrived in France and with any luck their journey would be over. So many have lost their lives trying to help Kristopher get to Switzerland but his biggest fear is losing Michel who he loves and who has become the most important thing in his life. Matt and Ken are also dealing with the same thing since their love for each other keeps growing and their fear over losing each other is a cause of nightmares.
Michel is actually able to bring Kristopher to his parent’s farm and introduce him and his mother knows immediately that Kristopher is more than just a friend. He is welcomed into their home and their dream of one day living together in France is made easier by Michel’s family’s acceptance of them. It is such a difficult time not just because of the war but because it is a time when being gay would mean death. So many times when things are difficult both sets of men want nothing more than to be able to show their love for each other and just be able to hold hands or hug but that is not something that will happen for a very long time.
Kristopher and Michel come up with a plan, a plan that would hopefully keep anyone from looking for Kristopher any more. Matt and Ken both are taken into their confidence and it is decided that the only way to keep Kristopher safe is for him to be believe dead. Not only the Germans have to believe it but the Allies as well or people will always look for Kristopher and the information he has. Unfortunately before any plan can be put into motion the resistance discovers that they have a traitor in their group and once again one or more of them is captured.
I don’t want to give anything away so I will not reveal what happens to this very special group of men and whether there is a happily ever after for them but I will say that every time the Nazis came close to them I could feel their pain and fear. This time in history was brutal and so many died and most of them were not even soldiers. I love this series and highly recommend it to anyone who loves historic stories and men who not only fall in love but build friendships that would last a life time.
