Any other year, hockey player Grady Armstrong would be licking his wounds after a disappointing playoffs exit. Somehow, this year, he’s in the stands as his rival-turned-boyfriend Max Lockhart competes for the Stanley Cup… and there’s nowhere he’d rather be. Well, except maybe lifting the Cup himself. So along with preparing his body for next season, Grady prepares to ask Max to stay in his life permanently.
Max figures it can’t be easy for Grady to watch Max cash in on his dreams, but if he’s struggling, he hides it well—which is great, because they don’t get much time together during the season, and it would suck if Grady spent the summer sulking.
But while Grady may still be a competitive bastard, he doesn’t sulk. He nurses Max through hangovers. He comes home with him for the summer. He loses fishing bets. He earns so many boyfriend points Max should really level him up. The question is, how?

If you are a fan of this Hockey After Ever series, then you are familiar with Grady Armstrong and his partner Max Lockhart. This book is a continuation of their relationship.
Grady’s team lost in the first round of playoffs for the Stanley Cup while Max’s team is now close to winning the trophy. Grady is so happy for Max and watching him play for the Cup is both nerve-wracking and exciting. His love for Max is all that matters and even though his team didn’t make it he wants the man he loves to win.
Max’s team wins the Stanley Cup, but Grady stays in the background not wanting to get in the way of Max’s triumph. This is Max’s time to shine, and all Grady can think about is how to propose to him. Rivals on the ice but lovers off.
Max and Grady both are trying to come up with ways to propose to each other rather than just going for it. Each time one of them thinks it is the perfect time something gets in the way, i.e. the parties, the parades and spending the summer with Max’s family, a very large family.
A day on a boat fishing is the perfect romantic moment until whales show up and take all the attention. A romantic picnic only it is pouring outside so it was another no go. With no family other than his sister, Grady has no one to go to for advice and how he can buy a ring in the town where Max is the local hero, and the purchase would not be a secret is another downer.
The summer is going by so fast, and time is running out and Max and Grady are still trying to figure out the best way to propose. Their love for each other is very strong but ending up married is becoming a difficult situation.
This was a sweet romance, two men who are very much in love with each other wanting to find the perfect way to propose and missing the mark. Just proposing is perfect no matter how it is done or where it is done, and they must figure it out.
