Shawna Davies and Eric Black have been partnered together on a drug task force. A new drug has hit South Beach, Florida leaving dead bodies and causing a major decline in tourism. Shawna is a narcotic detective and Eric is a vampire and enforcer for the Council. Supernaturals are still believed to be the stuff of books and movies, but someone seems to beattempting to bring them into the light.

Working undercover Shawna and Eric visit a nightclub, Prima believed to be the source of the drug. Eric has kept the secret of what he is, but he also suspects that Shawna is not quite human but has no idea what she is. Shawna is unaware of the fact that Prima is frequented by vampires and one night Eric comes face to face with his past, Armand, his sire.

Eric has no doubt that Armand is somehow in the middle of the drug problem, but he needs proof. Still ignorant of the existence of vampires and other supernaturals Shawna learns the hard way when she sneaks into the club alone at night and comes face to face with Armand who has let his fangs out and is close to taking a taste of Shawna till, she gets out.

Shawna must fight her attraction to Eric. It is not a good idea to imagine your partner as dessert when your life could be in danger. Like Shawna, Eric is also fighting his desire for his partner, but his secret is one that precludes involvement with a human. The drug problem is getting worse, no clue who is making the drug and no samples to examine. Shawna gets an education in supernaturals when a sample of the drug is finally discovered, and it shows a combination of blood and venom leading to the existence of vampires.

Shawna meets a fairy Aryeth who is knowledgeable about who and what Shawna is, and it was quite a shock but not as shocking as learning that the man she has fallen in love with is not a human. When Shawna and Eric finally accept what they mean to each other it is like the flood gates open and there is no stopping their physical attraction and it was hot, hot, hot.

This is the first book in the series, and I have no doubt it will just get better and better, and I look forward to more. There were many editing problems in this book but not enough to keep me from wanting more. Surprises, secrets, hot sex and everything you could want in a paranormal romance.
