Another country, another fire maiden and another story filled with shifters, amazing characters and romance. This is Holly Jennings and Lachlan McKenney’s story both dragon shifters and like all the previous ones it is a story I couldn’t wait to read.
Lachlan is attending the reading of one of the Guardians will and awaiting the arrival of his ashes. The long wait for the ashes finally ends with the arrival of Holly Jennings who has brought the ashes back from the United States where he died. Holly and Lachlan have not seen each other for ten years because he left right after they had a night of amazing sex and both knew without a doubt that they were mates.
Lachlan had drummed into him all his life that love was useless and that he had a duty to his country and no place for a mate. As hard as it was to leave Holly he did his duty and joined the French Foreign Legion and when his military career was over he returned home to Scotland to join the Guardians of Scotland. Seeing Holly walk through the door took his breath away and it took all he had to keep from sweeping her off her feet. Holly felt the same but she was there for a reason and that reason was to bring her mentor Trevor’s ashes home.
She would have to go to Gleninnis presently an island forbidden for anyone to go to but she is determined and Lachlan is tasked with her safety. While both of their dragons try to get their human half to wise up and accept their mate the human halves are not quite as smart. Trevor’s instructions for placing his ashes is not simple, in fact it comes with letters to be opened at each designated spot. Holly is unaware of the fact that the island is now the prison of the mastermind of one of the most ruthless dragon clans and a threat to humans and shifters alike.
Along for the ride is Mungo, Trevor’s deerhound and Tony, a lion shifter who Lachlan has asked to help protect Holly. Holly and Lachlan love each other but their stubborness and his determination that love would keep him from his duty just get in the way and not that their other halves are not trying to make them see the light.
The journey to place Trevor’s ashes and his personal letters at each stop to Holly finally makes Lachlan look at his life but is it too little too late. Their last stop is Gleninnis and the last letter changes Holly’s life in so many ways. The prisoner knows immediately what she is when he sees her while everyone else is clueless so this last stop does not go without danger.
A must read series, well as far as I am concerned. Mystery, shifters, romance, sex, betrayal, suspense and everything I could ever want from a paranormal romance. Every book in this series can be read as a standalone but why miss out on amazing stories.
