At sixteen, Sarah Atwell walked away from her love of horses and a promising career as a competitive rider after discovering she’d inherited the family curse. Years later, her grandmother stunned everyone by leaving Sarah her horse farm—worth millions—but with conditions Sarah might not be able to meet.
A former Redclaw agent, Casey Barnes retired when a security assignment went bad, killing his partner and leaving him as a partial amputee. His inner wolf is in hiding. He’s been living quietly as a horse trainer, but June Atwell’s death now pits him against her granddaughter for rights to the stable.
With both of them snowed in at the farm, a series of increasingly serious accidents draws Sarah and Casey closer together, but they each harbor secrets that might tear them apart.

Sarah Atwell and her fiancé Simon are on the way to Stonybrook, Virginia for the reading of her grandmothers will. Sarah loved her grandmother who owned a horse farm and she loved riding until she was sixteen years old and something unimaginable happened to her. From that day she barely ever returned to the farm and never revealed her reason to her grandmother. Now filled with guilt over not seeing her grandmother before she died she has no idea why it would be necessary for her to attend the reading since her father would inherit everything. While Sarah wonders about the will Simon spends the entire trip on his phone and complaining about the snow that is falling. Sarah though spending time together would be wonderful only she was the only one who thought so.
At the reading done by video her grandmother shocks everyone when she declares that everything she has would be left to Sarah leaving her father without anything. The only stipulations are that she has to live on the farm until her prized mare gave birth which would be about six weeks give or take. After that time Sarah could do what she wanted with the farm and there was no question that she would sell it. In the event that Sarah did not live up to the stipulations in the will everything would go to Casey Barnes her horse trainer. Now Sarah has to decide what she is going to do about her job and the farm but a snow storm takes the decision out of her hands when she and Casey are snowbound at the farm.
Simon returned home and a mistake dialing the wrong number told Sarah everything she needed to know about him he was cheating and she was to blame according to him. There was no way she would consider marrying him now and when she explains the reason she would not be at work due to the snow she losses her job as well. Now she has to learn how to care for the horses while waiting for the new foal to be born. Casey has no intention of staying but an accident changes everything.
Casey worked for the Redclaw Security a shifter firm until his last job cost the life of his partner and the loss of his leg. Not wanting to be a burden to his firm he retired and went to work for Sarah’s grandmother doing what he loved, training horses. Slipping on the ice caused his prosthetic limb to come undone and with the snow so deep there was no way for him to return home for his supplies. Stuck together with him being immobile he and Sarah find a way to work together only they also have to deal with their growing attraction for each other.
Someone is causing trouble at the farm, fences broken, gates open and the very horse she is responsible for getting loose. While going after the horses the bridge Sarah is riding over collapses and she and the horse she is riding fall into the freezing water but Casey is there to rescue them. It is then that he admits that his suspicions are true, someone is sabotaging the farm and he will need Redclaw’s help.
This was a wonderful addition to a wonderful series filled with secrets, betrayals, danger and a beautiful smart Shepherd, Sarah calls Ghost. The characters are wonderful each with secrets and handicaps, Casey his leg and Sarah a feeling of insecurity and what happened to her when she was sixteen.
