Marti Parker is an investigative reporter with a five-year-old daughter named Sophie. Her newest assignment is investigating the KT Cartel in Bozeman, Montana. When she gets a tip from her informer, Rocket she knows that she can’t go to the warehouse alone and enlists the help of billionaire, Caleb Malone.
Marti knows Caleb because her daughter and Caleb’s six-year-old son Danny go to the same school, so she has met him at PTA meetings and on school trips. Caleb is happy to go with Marti to the warehouse and discovers something that will change his life. Months ago, his younger brother, Jamison disappeared only to wind up being one of the heads of the KJ Cartel.
Marti and Sophie spent the night at Caleb’s but returning home she discovers a threatening note advising her in no uncertain terms to stop her investigation. Afraid for Sophie she asks Caleb to allow them to stay in his home until everything is settled which he readily agrees to.
Another note warns that she is not safe at the ranch meaning the Cartel is on to her and the danger is getting close. Caleb puts on additional security but if someone wants you, they will find a way. Caleb decides the best course of action is to appear that he and Marti are dating and that is the reason for them spending so much time together. Sounds like a good plan until their feelings begin to show.
Marti, Sophie, Caleb and Danny are in danger especially when Caleb’s brother Jamison knows everything about the ranch and how to gain access to it. While the two adults are busy trying to find Jamison, Caleb’s younger sister Bethany is watching the two six-year-olds as they become best friends. Two children who don’t get to spend much time with other kids their age find comfort in each other.
This book is suspenseful, romantic and there are surprises and a revelation into both Marti and Caleb’s past marriages, one ending in divorce and one ending in death.
