George Randall is a vampire hunter heading to a cabin he knows is harboring a vampire. When he enters the cabin, he comes face to face with a human, no vampire in sight. The human, Lee, is the apprentice for a vampire who has promised to turn him, when Jay comes out, he gets in the way of Lee and George fighting over a stake and Jay winds up being staked.
That is the beginning of the relationship between George and Lee with Lee running every chance he has to find a vampire that will turn him. George always finds Lee and together they form a friendship. Then they meet Dax, an older vampire who is always there when Lee is in trouble.
The search for a vampire to turn Lee always proves unsuccessful. Each time his attempt to find a willing vampire puts Lee in danger and Dax is always there to save him.
I expected so much more from this book, and it never lived up to expectations. Vampires are turned immediately, being fed from and giving blood and that is all it takes. There are constant battles between hunters and vampires, some hunters even being turned themselves.
At times it was a hunter, a vampire, escape and then repeat. The book itself was filled with violence which is not uncommon when it is about vampires. Lee continues his search to become immortal with Dax always there to save him.
I did enjoy the main characters, George, Alan, Lee and Dax, but it just wasn’t enough to fill the book with excitement and suspense.
