A Sucker For Love Mystery
It’s just Ted’s luck that he meets the love of his life while covered in the blood of a murder victim.
Funeral worker Ted Sturm has a foul mouth, a big heart, and a knack for communicating with the dead. Unfortunately the dead don’t make very good friends, and Ted’s only living pal, his roommate, just rescued a strange cat who’s determined to make his life even more miserable. This cat is more than he seems, and soon Ted finds himself in an alternate dimension… and on top of a dead body.
When Ted is accused of murder, his only ally in a strange world full of powerful magical beings calling for his head is King Grell, a sarcastic, randy, catlike immortal with impressive abilities… and anatomy. The two soon find themselves at the center of a cosmic conspiracy and surrounded by dangerous enemies. But with Ted’s special skills and Grell’s magic, they have a chance to get to the bottom of the mystery and save Ted. There’s just one problem: Ted’s got to resist Grell’s aggressive advances… and he isn’t sure he wants to

This is such a quirky series and I can’t help but love it. Book one really drew me in to this alternative world and now this one takes us to the plane of Xenon with Ted, who has just been ‘portaled’ there by his roommate’s evil cat. As luck would have it, he ends up accused of murder and the only one to help him is Grell, a crazy flirt who just also happens to be king.
I was surprised with how much Ted swears but it really fits with him and the insane situation he finds himself in. So much goes on within the space of a couple of minutes that anything else that follows and doesn’t make sense, he can’t help but just go with the flow. He has to work to clear his name of murder and Grell has offered to help, looking into the creature who died and those around him. It turns into quite the mystery with more victims and suspects keeping the duo on their toes. Helping them along is someone from book one, Professor Kunst, who brings just as much drama second time around.
The relationship in this book between the MC’s is very similar to those in book one. The mortal gets dragged into something that involves the gods, with one of said gods taking a strong liking to them, being ever so slightly determined in their flirting and attraction. It’s entertaining with the way Grell goes about wooing Ted, and Ted’s wavering stance against anything happening. He has other slightly more important things to worry about, namely a murder charge and being in a different world, but there’s just something about Grell that cannot be denied. He’s charming, attractive, powerful and fully of care and protectiveness when it comes to Ted. They make for a lot of fun to read as they banter and forth, both clearly enjoying their time together. Ted actually brings a lot to their relationship, things of things in a different way to those on Xenon and helping Grell when a terrible discovery is made.
It has a very interesting cast of characters. The creatures that make up those on Xenon are eclectic and takes an imagination to create. At first I wondered about it being connected to the first book but the end of book one leads directly to this one and there is mention of Sloane and Loch towards the end of this book. The mystery element here gets partially solved but here are bigger forces at play that then leads to the overall series plot.
It’s not necessary to have read book one to enjoy this book but each book offers information in the overall series arc, and they’re just a fun and entertaining read.
I love the characters and world that has been created here. I found myself smiling a lot throughout and am looking forward to seeing how things progress with the gods storyline and hoping that Grell and Ted meet up with Sloane and Loch in the future. I can see Loch and Grell causing all kinds of trouble.
