Love is worth the risk...

When their grandfather dies, the Lindquist sisters, Harper, Scarlet and Maggie, inherit the northern Minnesota fishing lodge that had been in their family for three generations. The inheritance is bittersweet. They were raised at the lodge by their grandparents. The natural beauty of the place hasn’t changed, but the building itself is crumbling and desperately in need of repair. The lodge also reminds them of what they lost. Twenty-two years previously, their parents died there in what was ruled a murder/suicide.

As the sisters struggle to breathe new life into the failing lodge, old fears and questions rise to the surface even as new love presents itself. Why did their father murder their mother? What truths did their grandparents keep from them? The sisters must fight to keep the wounds of the past from putting their futures, and their fledgling relationships, in jeopardy.

When Harper Lindquist was ten years old she lost her parents to a drowning leaving her and her two younger sisters Scarlett and Maggie orphans. At the time of their deaths the girls and their mom were staying at their grandparents fishing lodge in Northern Minnesota and her parent’s marriage seemed headed for divorce. When her father suddenly appeared trying to win her mother back there was a suspicion about their deaths, her father apparently hit her mother over the head with an oar and either went into the water to make sure she was dead or to save her, neither reason could be substantiated.

Now twenty-two years later and with the death of both her grandparents Harper is determined to save the lodge, her home since she was ten and the place her beloved grandfather loved. Unfortunately the lodge is in dire need of repairs and money to make them happen. Harper reached out in an ad seeking an investor to bring the lodge back and it was Hainstock Investments that answered her call.

It was midnight when someone came knocking on her door in the middle of a blizzard and that someone was Ethan James a respresentative for Hainstock Investments looking into whether they would invest in the lodge. Of course unknown to her Ethan James is actually Ethan James Hainstock a man who had won one of the biggest lotterys and who found that having money meant having people try everything in their power to use him. He didn’t want to admit who he was to Harper for fear of his money becoming the biggest factor in what would be done with the lodge. He also knew that he was interested in the land not an old run down lodge but stranded because of the snow he and Harper had a few days before he could leave for her to try to convince him of what her dream for the lodge was, and she was successful.

During the time they were together their feelings for each other grew and Ethan found himself wanting to reveal who he was but afraid of what she would think. Harper believes in honesty and she feels that Ethan is honest so how can he reveal that he is lying to her. The more time goes on and the bigger his lie becomes the harder it is to reveal the truth.

Work on the lodge begins and Harper and Ethan begin to grow closer but secrets get in the way. Harper fears that giving in to Ethan could lead to what happened to her parents and Ethan is afraid to reveal who he really is. What happens to them is not something I am willing to talk about in this review but it is something you definitely should find out for yourself.

A beautiful story of two people who are keeping secrets, secrets that could destroy any chance they have for a relationship. Two people who are falling in love but have built walls around themselves that have to be knocked down. There is also the mystery of what happened to Harper’s parents and I can’t wait for the next book in the series because I firmly believe more about their deaths will be revealed.
