I will be honest, I was not in the mood for science fiction but I had promised to review this book and was late as usual. Anyway, I started it hoping to be able to scan through it get the plot, story and ending then write a quick review. Sometimes things just don’t work out like you plan.
The story grabbed me almost from page one, it got me involved in the players and seemed everyone has some secrets. While this story is told mainly from the POV of Severn, you get to look inside the mind of almost every character since the POV changes from time to time to keep the reader involved in the action.
You will love the characters and the several twists that you did not see coming (and a couple you will) and the reasons it is not a 5 Star is a few weak spots in the plot, a good science fiction story that tries to inject a bit of romance and while it added to the story it was kinda weak and more insta-love than any real romantic buildup. The story does manage to maintain a pretty good stress level for the reader in the “where do we go from here” feeling.
The ending is complex and involved with a nice ending page that you already saw coming.
Bottom Line: It was a great rollicking story with several little subplots to add to the story plus some real surprises along the way. 4 Stars and highly recommended since for a book I did not want to read I polished it off in a little over one day (would have been less if the sump pump had not gone DOA).
