Erica Timberly is twenty three and has finally gotten the courage to leave her abusive boyfriend. She knows that using charge cards or a phone would bring Phil right to her so all she has is the $5,000 she took from Phil, $5,000 that she had loaned him and considered pay back.
Finally ready to start a new life free of Phil she finds herself stuck in a rainstorm in Vermont with a car that refuses to move. Alone, phoneless she is lucky when a man stops to help her. Having lived in New York she is very leery of strangers but her choices are few, sit in a dark car in a storm alone or take the strangers assistance with a flashlight in her hand as a weapon.
Erica has no idea who has stopped to help her but it is none other than Dylan Haynes her favorite drummer from her favorite rock band. Although the band broke up she still loves their music and still has the hots for the drummer. Although her luck has not been very good lately it seems that her luck has turned for the better.
Dylan gave up the band to return home to Vermont and teach music at his parent’s music academy and as a volunteer firefighter. He was one of the smart ones because he began to realize that the constant meaningless sex and hard drinking were slowly destroying him and he moved on with his life. Now he finds himself entranced by Erica who he wants to get to know better and who he hopes will stay in town for awhile.
Erica relayed her situation to Dylan especially since the black eye she was trying to hide was still visible. She found it very easy to talk to him even about things she did not speak to anyone else about. Her biggest fear is that Phil will locate her and cause trouble for those who have welcomed her into the fold.
As things between Dylan and Erica heat up Phil is still ever present in Erica’s mind. Whether Phil finds her is not for me to disclose. Whether Dylan and Erica have a lasting relationship is also for you to discover.
This was a beautiful love story and the characters were just wonderful. A small town where everyone knows everything about each other and yet welcome a stranger. If you love a sweet love story with some suspense thrown in then you will love this one. I read it in one day.
Thanks for the great review, Linda!!
