In many of the M/M contemporary romance stories I have read by Brandon Witt, he has placed them where he resides now in Colorado or in the small town where he was brought up. I find it wonderful when he combines the two as he has in this first novella of Mary’s Boys.
His love for his local Hamburger Mary’s in Denver shines through. We have one locally in Tampa where I live and gay or not, people flock there for good food and good feelings. Here we meet Darwin Mitchell and Cody Russell who have come to Denver from small towns. Cody works at Mary’s after running like the wind to get away from a horrible existence at home and has found the family and safety at Mary’s, that he has never had.
Darwin Mitchell has left a loving family to come to the big city. He has a good job, and is now open to dating out of the shadows and doing that almost every night trying to find Mr Right. These two couldn’t be more opposite in what they want.
Tonight Darwin sits at Hamburger Mary’s with another boring date as he notices this adorable young man who was their waiter. This is not an easy read, as Cody is taken down a very dark path, but Brandon has the reader rooting so hard that Cody and Darwin get their HEA.
I loved the story, The people at Mary’s and an Darwin’s confession about himself bringing us back to where Brandon grew up and the youth pastor who helped yet another young man, Darwin Mitchell.
Cannot wait for the next story…….thinking I know who it will be.
