When one of High Lord Valadon’s rare paintings goes missing, his second in command, Remare enlists the help of Professor Miranda Crescent, an art authenticator and Elemental, to help locate the stolen work of art. Knowing the darker side of vampire politics, Miranda is reluctant to offer any assistance to the handsome vampire who once tried to kill her, no matter how sexy and alluring he may be. But when her former assistant and nephew to the High Lord, Nick Valadon, implores her return, she agrees.
Their search will lead them to Nightworld, home of the Rogue vampires and a confrontation with Stryder, the dangerous leader of the Rogues. Together, Remare and Miranda will enter the dangerous world of underground auctions where only the very rich and powerful procure “lost” works of art. Making their search more difficult is the rising heat between the vampire and the Elemental, whose attraction may turn out to be more lethal than the adversaries they encounter.

This novella comes after book one and before book two and this series should be read in order. Miranda Crescent has managed to stay away from High Lord Valadon who has made it clear he wants her but when one of his favorite paintings is missing Nick, his nephew and Remare his second in charge come calling.
Valadon is currently out of town, and it is hopeful that the painting will be found before he returns to find it missing. Miranda finds herself unable to refuse and embarks on a journey that would be filled with danger. She survived after almost dying in book one and Brandon, Valadon’s brother was one of her torturers and now is believed to be the thief. Remare wants Brandon dead despite Valadon’s insistence he just be captured.
While working together Remare and Miranda find themselves fighting their feelings for each other, especially Remare who is at war with himself over his desire for Miranda and his loyalty to Valadon. Until Valadon decides to give up on Miranda Remare will be unable to consider a relationship with her.
Unfortunately, their desires out rule them, and they give in to them knowing that there is nowhere to go in the future. Now to continue to Book #2 !
There is danger, attacks by rogues, a burning desire for a future between Remare and Miranda but this time the only harm that she suffered was to her hair and she was not a happy camper. This was just a taste of what is coming, and I can’t wait, we also learn more about Miranda and her Elemental powers.
