Gwyneth Camm has just inherited her great-aunt’s house in Salem, Massachusetts, along with an extensive collection of gothic romance novels. As a PhD student who prefers “serious” books, Gwyn has always avoided pulp fiction. Now, in honor of her beloved Aunt Ethel, she gives one of the gothics a try…and promptly falls asleep.
When she wakes, she finds herself inside the story, thrust by forces unknown into the heroine’s role. There’s magic afoot, and the only way back to her own life is to play her part and solve the mystery.
When fiction becomes fact, anything can happen…

This was such a unique story, a story that not just goes back in time but takes our heroine, Gwyneth Camm into a story appearing as Linda Brett.
Gwyn had recently lost her aunt who left her house to her, and a library filled with gothic pulp fiction which she had no interest in. One night a book fell titled “Thornehaven” and Gwyn took it as a sign that her aunt wanted her to read it, so she did. Tired, she fell asleep having only read a small portion of the book and when she woke up, she was standing in front of a Gothic Revival mansion with two suitcases and a body that wasn’t hers.
Gwyn immediately realized she was Linda Brett the new secretary for bestselling author Edgar Thorne. Unfortunately, she didn’t really get into the story so now she is forced to play it by ear, solve the mystery of the missing old secretary Doris and when the mystery is solved, or she gets to the end of the book she will return to her own time.
The mansion is filled with a unique array of people any one could be a killer and Gwyn could find herself the killer’s next target. Mrs. Thorne in a wheelchair, her nurse, the butler, the groundskeeper, the cook, the maid, Edgar who is harboring a secret, there is no limit to the number of suspects. The mansion itself is creepy, filled with hidden tunnels and the possibility of a ghost.
A family mired in secrets, lies and betrayal and Gwyn needs to find answers so she can get back to her life. Secrets that go back to when Mr. Thorne was still alive, when Mrs. Thorne nearly died but was left a cripple and more mysteries that need to be solved. I don’t want to reveal too much but trust me, there is much more to discover, and I have no doubt you will be as engrossed in this story as I was.
I look forward to more in this series and wonder if it will once again take Gwyn into a story or will it take place in her time.
